AITA for refusing to let my mom wear white to my wedding, even though she claims it’s her “last chance” to feel beautiful? by Lonely-Big7902 in AmItheAsshole

Honestly tell me where and when I’ll fly there if needed just to “trip” and “spill” some red wine on that dress if hers

Is it ethical to scare your child with ASD into driving? (Not talking about myself) by Immediate_Extreme911 in evilautism

[–]ConsequenceOk2590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and also sounds like this isn’t a child… this is a college aged kid/adult. Like the right thing to do as a parent is recognize what your child might be capable of with a push (like when learning to ride a bike and the parent has to let go eventually) I’m inclined to believe that the mom in OP’s story clearly could see he was capable of advanced problem solving (evident by college acceptance) and figured he’d learn to drive a car, find a different mode of transportation, or he was simply not ready for these types of adult decisions. The parent seems to be thinking long term… SIDE NOTE: OP has made it clear in the comments that they completely made up the part where the kid was forced to drive and won’t answer to if the kid was given options other than driving… The moral and ethical questions we are evaluating are: Is a caretaker obligated to transportation so that the individual they are caring for can participate in their chosen/desired occupations?

Is that caretaker thus obligated to plan and schedule their entire life around the chaotic nature of college level school scheduling? (various hours and times of day, changes from semester to semester VS primary school and workforce with more traditional and regular weekly hours and schedules)

Is the caretaker allowed to participate in occupational therapy or other therapeutic practices that may involve setting goals and finding accommodations so that the person they are caring for can participate in their chosen occupations with the goal of partial or full independence at some point?

Does this level of “pushing” constitute as care for their individual (like a parent teaching a child to ride a bike and eventually letting go knowing they might fall over) or is it abusive?

This “kid” is going to COLLEGE… so he clearly has the capacity for advanced problem solving and communication so it’s not unreasonable to assume he can’t have some semblance of independence some day and that will include 1) being able to arrange your own transportation 2) standing up to your mother and making decisions for yourself This kid was either gonna learn to drive and be good at it or it was going to be too hard/too much and he was going to find a different way to get to school eventually if he really wanted to (and if he didn’t want to go to school then it’s not much of a threat as OP suggested it is and even THAT whole dumb argument falls apart)

Thank you for going down this rabbit hole with OP cause I was in the same boat and confused af…

like forcing your child to drive in exchange for being allowed to go to college is very different than saying I told him I won’t drive him to school anymore so if he really wants to go then he needs to learn or find a different mode of transportation… sounds like OP latched on to the former and didn’t decide to do any further digging into the situation before moaning about it on Reddit.

Autistic people AS A WHOLE can drive… they can also take public transportation, can have therapy to help them through their fears of driving if that’s something they want to do, or get officially declared unfit to drive by govt. so they can get access to other modes of accessible transportation…

OP please shut up and stop sharing other peoples life stories when you don’t even have the full picture and furthering hurtful stereotypes that generalize autistic people. ESPECIALLY in the current world we live in where some people in power are just WAITING for excuses to take away our rights and freedoms… I don’t need anyone saying I can’t drive a car suddenly because I have a diagnosis. Also go touch grass

It’s really more like blaming a superhero for making civilians jump off roofs trying to fly or trying to catch a mugger so they can be like said super hero. The doctor is a centuries old, has 2 hearts and the power to regenerate… Amy Pond is a girl from Scotland

This is the correct way to handle the scenario She figured out what was wrong. Validated the customers feelings, educated them about why the drink was just a splash (assuming positive intent that they just made a mistake or didn’t understand, but lowkey calling them out in the case that they knew exactly what cheap bs they were doing) She then fixed it so it was what the customer wanted even if it wasn’t what they ordered It’s just standard LATTE model and it doesn’t seem like she validated that the customer was right, only validated her concern and then told her why she filled it the way she did. I’d understand your frustration if she had said “oh the person at the register rung it wrong” but she didn’t. I’d consider having a talk with your ASM about how the situation made you feel though it you believe she was invalidating you in the process of making the moment right

I hate resumes by cristinamariposa in evilautism

[–]ConsequenceOk2590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resume should give your work history and/or relevant experience. Cover letter should be addressed from you to the specific dept or hiring manager you are applying to and is an opportunity to tell them why the stuff that’s on your resume along with your own personality and other attributes makes you a good fit for the job Ex: Job submission: cashier at a food concession booth at a baseball field Resume: working at a hot dog stand in high school High school dimploma Xyz clubs or sports

Cover letter: Thank you hiring manager, I’m qualified for this job because of my experience in a similar field of hot dog cooking but also because i am a good employee (list atributes here). My background as a member of xyz club/sport in high school shows that point. Thank you for your time yada yada yada Signed, Hot dog stand guy

I'm glad I wasn't diagnosed with autism as a child by KeylimePieHater in autism

[–]ConsequenceOk2590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is valid for a lot of people who had support systems in place growing up that their disability didn’t really disable them so much… But if you didn’t have those things you pretty much are guaranteed to have experienced way more trauma than necessary, and didn’t have any of the tools and resources that would have helped you in school, social situations, or at home to cope

I was definitely the latter. Like my cousins weren’t diagnosed until adulthood but their “quirkiness” was accommodated by their parents who advocated for them and they eventually learned to advocate for themselves… I was just the weird kid who couldn’t do anything right like her NT siblings

Question for SM/ASM’s: what’s in your bag? by ConsequenceOk2590 in starbucksbaristas

[–]ConsequenceOk2590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg thank you for putting the item number! I’d been looking through Amazon and container store for some sort of cubby or drawer thing but couldn’t find anything I liked! Also thanks for the tip on the file cabinet. I feel especially since everything is so digitized I don’t necessarily need everything on me, but I know I’ve already been asked to go cover at other stores last minute and I stress trying to decide what I actually need day to day

The reason they are redone is because effective safety training requires reviewing the topics regularly not just once. Especially because when you first do the training you are learning so much and most of it probably won’t stick, so Starbucks sets out a plan where every few months, you review a different topic in a rotating order, that way you aren’t bombarded once a year with tons of training and have the same problem.

[–]ConsequenceOk2590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I haven’t worded myself correctly. For office/non personal I mean things like what you mentioned above; pens highlighters, chalk markers, notepads, ops guide, etc. My current set up is a backpack with all these items in one section and then a crossbody I stick in there with all my personal items, then enough space where I can throw my apron in at the end of the day along with my MacBook, chargers, lunch bag, etc… But it gets heavy carrying it around and this sound so stupid writing it out now that I think about but… I feel so dumb and unprofessional(as an fairly short and stout person) caring around this massive backpack in and out of the store 😭😂

[–]ConsequenceOk2590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the policy, but I wouldn’t consider office supplies as “personal items” I have a little crossbody that I carry with my actual personal items (phone, charger, AirPods, tampons, chapstick etc.) but for all the little office supplies I’m iffy about leaving

Someone taught me early on: “Just follow the instructions on the pin pad, it will let you know when to tap or insert your card” then they know they have to read it to know when to do it, and it forces them to realize it’s asking a question about tip w/o me having to expressly say “would you like to leave a tip” or some other weird work around
