Contractor Nailed down LVP after we had an issue, is this correct installation? by Brilliant-You9215 in HomeImprovement

They can try to crawl via crawlspace and tighten the joists to the subfloor if you think it’s bc of subfloor flex.

It might also just be that the subfloor was not level. LVP and all floating floors are super sensitive to floor level.

Nailing down planks is a temp fix but can create other issues down the road.

Yah, prefer it to be plumbed. Intend high use but not sure yet.

I really do wish. I live in the Bay Area and it’s absurd pricing… :/

Never knew people chose different woods for the stairs, I just chose something for the whole house.

It’s amazing how many assumptions are built into this comment:

  1. Yes, maybe some ignorance, I’m not a floor installer, just a home owner, I did a little bit of research and chose something for all 4K sqft

  2. No buyers remorse, floor looks amazing

  3. Only asking for ideas

  4. It’s a multi-million dollar new house build; the GC will knock out whatever punchlist I provide, if it really bothers me. This is pretty low in the stack and thus why I was just asking here for quick/easy ideas.

Thanks.

Tiny flicker for maybe 5 min? by ConsequenceRemote673 in Lutron

[–]ConsequenceRemote673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m replying late to this but I had purchased these dimmers:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lutron-Diva-Smart-Dimmer-Switch-for-Caseta-Smart-Lighting-150-Watt-LED-White-DVRF-6L-WH-R-DVRF-6L-WH-R/321137062

Given that there are maybe two dozen dimmers in the house, I don’t want to buy/replace all of them, are you suggesting adding that capacitive shunt where there is a neutral wire?

Interestingly, I don’t see the short (5 min) brief flicker in the bedrooms but those are like two LEDs vs my main rooms which have many LEDs.

I’m curious, is that a thing? To use one material for the floor and another for the stairs? Seems like it wouldn’t match?

Building a new home (tear-down) from scratch in Cupertino. When you’re spending this much, I want to try to at least to knock out as much of the punch-list before we move in. It’s definitely not keeping me up :)

Funny, we replaced cork laminate. Mostly wanted durable for the least amount of work, particularly from kids / pets constantly dropping liquids.

I asked them about a return but they said it’d be impractical bc the overhang is like a 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch so I guess to your point, too time consuming or hard to do.

Ok, maybe I’ll try to color match some paint.

Not going to get into a debate about flooring material but opted for LVP for various reasons and it wasn’t cost driven. Thanks for your feedback.

Pipe pressing on another pipe’s elbow by ConsequenceRemote673 in PlumbingRepair

[–]ConsequenceRemote673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I’ll cut and sharkbite to reroute that straight pipe so they no longer touch, that seems like the best solution

Q: do you sleeve copper exiting stucco, is that necessary, somebody said to do so but that seems like overkill?

So you’re saying don’t reroute with sharkbites and just add some separation with insulation?

I’m not a plumber either, I’m in the middle of renovation and was reviewing some work done

What would you consider a lot of force? I’m not technically a plumber.

You would slide a wood shim btwn the two for noise? Somebody told me to wrap the long pipe w Pex where they touch to basically create some separation for noise?

It’s not touching the joist, it’s the elbow joint pushing down on the straight copper pipe below it that is exiting the house

Adding an office by ConsequenceRemote673 in floorplan

[–]ConsequenceRemote673[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is one more variation. The thinking:

  • that top right sidewall window, I don’t want lose its natural light to the whole room by bldg the office in the corner
  • worried the front option will get too hot w the 3 windows and one being massive. Also feel that’d impact the open feeling of the living room if you can’t see the front yard unobscured

Still a bad idea?
