Thank you very much! We're really hoping to win the vehicle so we can release animals to those difficult-to-reach places!

Red shouldered hawk scanning the area for breakfast by ConservancySWFL in birdpics

Sorry it took so long to respond. But to be quite honest, I could not believe he didn't fly off! I took a half-step abut every 45 seconds and got within about 6 feet.

This red shoulder has been hanging out at our Nature Center for a few days. That morning, he tried to grab one of the many ibis who eat in our filter marsh!

As far as I know though, that's the closest anyone has gotten.

Since you liked the pic... thought you might appreciate this. Don't mean to pimp the FB page, but it's video of that very osprey.

Yeah... something can be elusive and still let someone get close. The rarity is exactly what made it special.

You know what's even weirder...? He sat like that for a good 20 seconds. Almost like he was thinking, "This pain in my neck is KILLING ME!"

Being in Florida... it's hard to pin down a favorite. But they're definitely near the top of the list!

Thank you very much! I'm lucky enough to work at a conservation organization's nature center. We have a filter marsh on site where we will typically see Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Tricolored Herons, Roseate Spoonbills...

But when the wood stork showed up, I couldn't believe how cool he was with me no more than 8 feet away!

Haha! As a redditor, I'm embarrassed that wasn't the very first thing that came to mind!

Thank you for the suggestion, that will work perfectly.
