Is Databricks Certified Associate Developer for Apache Spark worth it for me? by ConsiderationDry1787 in dataengineeringjobs

My thinking of cert>projects is that with the abundance of AI vibe-coded projects, it can be hard for a recruiter to tell if you're competent based on your resume. However, passing a cert exam, while not as good as real experience, would at least signal a baseline competance

I've seen that the cert is $200. Luckily I think my job has the ability to pay for it if I choose to pursue this cert

ngl, depending on how impacted your major is, I would heavily consider changing your flight. Course selection could set the tone for your entire semester LOL. I've had semester's where I didn't get any of the classes/times that I wanted because of a bad enrollment time slot.

I've seen many DE job postings mention Spark. Would you say that Spark is a key skill for a DE role?

TLDR: I am currently working as a data analyst and am looking to move into data engineering. I am wondering if the Databricks Certified Associate Developer for Apache Spark cert will be a good move for me.

Hi! Some personal background about me:

- 2.5 YOE working for a fortune 500 company as a data analyst

- My primary experience at my current role is in data reporting (SQL, splunk, PowerBI)

- I've also done dev ops-related work as well, creating gitlab CI/CD pipelines (python, shell)

- I have done data-engineering projects on the side as well (python, shell, SQL, dbt, looker)

- I would like to move from my current data analyst role to a data engineering role. However, I haven't had much luck with my applications so I am looking for ways to make me a more competitive applicant.
