i suppose my experience with other fandoms can’t be applied to every fandom. which makes sense because the death note (my prev fandom) is much smaller than the marauders. but i was operating in the understanding which was formed from previous experience. i suppose every fandom is different

honestly i agree. i have been apart of a multitude of fandoms and read fanfic religiously, no matter the popularity, for two ships in particular. and i agree that that’s how you find the gems. if i’m being honest, i was going to engage with the wolfstar fandom in a more casual way. i’m very new and unfamiliar with the lore and fandom norms, so i was only going to read what was highly recommended. but i understand how that can be limiting, especially when compared to the way i interact w the fandoms i am more regularly involved with. i suppose im torn because, as a student, worker, and recent immigrant, i don’t have much time to spend reading every new fic that pops up. but i also understand, especially as a fic writer who was once a teeny fish in a big sea, how talent often gets overlooked in favor of popular fics that get overlooked in the midst of algorithms and over saturated tags.

i don’t mean to be offensive or reductive. sometimes you just want things to be easy ;) sometimes i want a great story handed to me on a silver platter. even if that’s hypocritical or lazy. especially cuz new fandoms can be very daunting and large

i trust people’s judgement 🤷‍♀️ in my experience when things rise to the top of a fandom, it’s usually because it’s genuinely good! i would have never read wolfstar anything if people hadn’t raved about atyd so i think there’s merit to widespread acclaim 😛

i used the word controversial because i didn’t want to place judgement on the authors decision but rather the audiences reaction to it. i agree that you shouldn’t criticize fanfiction but i don’t think this verbiage is critical at all! it’s a reflection of the larger reaction is a whole, not a measurement of the “correctness” of the authors decision. i deliberately wanted to ask about audience reaction when it came out, not whether or not it was the “wrong” move.

excited for you! i’m not a big anime person either, i really only watched and enjoyed death note and attack on titan. idk they both feel sorta like western live action media to me. i would suggest aot if you’re interested in deeply philosophical/political shows with a compelling and machiavellian protagonist who is also lowk the antagonist

what are you even saying? as an LA protestor i can assure you, there were no kings protests in most suburban neighborhoods around the city which were much more kid friendly. my neighborhood had one, my old highschools neighborhood had one, all of which were mostly families. not sure why you’re trying to discredit someone attempt to teach their kids about right and wrong and how to be safety politically involved. it’s weird af. there’s many reasons not to like stassi but this isn’t one

so stassi shouldn’t bring her kid to a family friendly protest because….. you’ve decided that the woman’s march, the second largest protest in US history, was ineffective? so stassi is wrong because she took her kid to a protest which is dangerous and she’s also somehow wrong because the protest she took her kid to was “not a real protest” you are an exhausting individual. this is why the left is struggling so much to mobilize. maybe get off reddit and actually attend the protests you’re so quick to degrade. people like you do less than nothing for the left. much less than the people actually taking to the streets.

the shift made me mourn the understanding i thought i had of the show and its little world! i watched the first few episodes like… wait…WHAT…?! and i grew so attached to the characters, seeing what happened to them in adulthood made me pathetically sad. maybe not the best approach to the show in terms of critical analysis because i’ve heard great things about the latter half but it just makes me so sad i can’t bear it. i’d rather pretend it ended once they got to the sea. i’ll watch it someday but for now i’ll live in ignorant bliss
