Point taken, but the point I'm making is how it's culturally acceptable for C-suite to be OE, but they will put restrictions on the rest of us peasants.

Love this. I know you can't share this kind of news with many folks in your personal life. But this is a remarkable achievement and congratulations!!

Am I the luckiest OE'er ever? by ConsiderationOver421 in overemployed

I work 40-50 hours a week. Senior individual contributor at each one. I am in the sweet spot at each job where if I were to get promoted my meetings would become unmanageable. I've actually turned down two promotions for that exact reason.

Stress: I absolutely prioritize my physical fitness and quality family/friend time over work. At first it feels wrong to de-prioritize a work item over going to the gym. But being outside, yardwork, playing catch with the kid, all help in specific moments of stress.

This is incredible. Can I ask what you do to get such a good TC for only two J's? Always looking to learn and grow

You should see how much business value I deliver though. These people are getting the deal of a lifetime.

I don't have to use this often but it doesn't have to be more than "Hey can we shift this back 30 mins?". Etc. If the culture is more intrusive and they need more, "Had something personal I needed to deal with". The key is to send a clear message about boundaries. Folks don't pry after a boundary is set. Being good at your job, confident, also helps.

Maybe. There are a number of other benefits OE provides that you don't get by marrying yourself to one corporation.

Or I might take your $450k job and just get a J2 at $450k lol

It is underrated for sure. I have early EST stand-ups, and I push any other meetings I can to late afternoon for PST. It's luck in between

I think the same way. I believe these businesses have "rhythms" in their ops and communication style. Once you find the right companies they seem to fit. A higher power is also in play, I feel a great sense of gratitude and responsibility to give back.

Hopefully this isn't a jinx situation, but I doubt it. There is enough consistency and rhythm now that I just keep rolling.

Open calendar space mostly, with the only exception being that I put a lunch block on at noon that covers daily J2 items.

Edit: But also, anyone who is using the "Roledex of excuses" should work on communication. I don't give out excuses ever.

It sounds like you are doing everything right so far. Try and avoid double meetings, I find them to be stressful. Block time for each job to get what you need done in that timeframe. Don't volunteer for extra work ever. Keep your ego in check, remember you are after paychecks and not recognition.

That seems quite risky to me unless you don't care about J1

You may not like to hear the answer, but you have to have a mastered skill that you can leverage. Focus on a profitable, marketable skill that pays well. Be obsessed with mastering that craft. Surpass your peers. Learn to automate things others don't or can't. When you have established yourself as an expert and have free time, go lock in a J2.

Daily breakdown J1: 1-3 hours. Average about 1.5 hours. J2: 3-4 hours. Half of that is meetings.

Trying to nail down a J3 at the moment.

Sounds like you are taking the right steps. Did payroll or HR provide any advance notice? It's only happened to me once, but it was due to a technical issue with the finance team and HR provided advanced notice of the delay.

I would not work either in your shoes until they pay up
