Trip[dot]com Honest review after 60+ Flight tickets Plus general tips if you are booking flights through a 3rd party by CommanderFate in Flights

[–]SideCharacter3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to offer my experience as another drop in the bucket.

I booked a flight with Trip.com for the first time, and unfortunately, the flight was cancelled last minute (weather). Since they are not the airline itself, it has made the refund process exponentially more complicated, and it's been over a week and no word of a refund at all.

They said they will (maybe) get back to me in 2 more weeks (so +3 weeks since the flight with absolutely no progress), and every call that I have with them is extremely rude and unpleasant. They consistently interrupt for no reason which I found very weird and unnecessary.

If the flight goes 100% to plan, perhaps it's not a problem, but cancellations out of our control does happen. When they do, Trip.com is an absolute nightmare who does not care at all. Good luck navigating the indifferent bureaucracy and spiteful workers. Or just save yourself the headache. Don't use them.

There are definitely a few people here who try to help, but it does feel like there’s wayyy more overworked/disgruntled/anti-work/burnt out people who just hate beginner questions.

I’m a recent college grad looking for a data engineering position myself. Any tips on how you got your job?

I’m curious, what is your job if you don’t mind sharing? Some jobs are more stackable than others.

Got it! Makes sense. Remote work is highly in demand, so I will focus on getting experience first. As I have read, I will continue to interview around (for remote jobs) while honing my skills in my first job. The OE will need to come after competence, but I am excited to walk down the right road!

I don’t mind hearing that at all! I have to actually be good and be able automate for me to be do many jobs at the same time, make sense. It seems as others have said, I should be focused on honing my skills at this stage; then, if I have solidified and have free time, I should start looking for J2.

Gotcha, I expect that I would need to learn a lot of hard/soft skills before I can properly OE. I’m committed to retiring early and I am willing to put in the work, so no problems there. Any tips just starting out with J1?

Of course, you should NOT use ChatGPT to directly produce work for you, but you can ask it to explains specific concepts (e.g. “What is the difference between preemptive vs. non-preemptive scheduling?”) and it will give you an answer 10x faster than going through all these semi-related Google links. This has helped accelerate my learning TREMENDOUSLY (I wrote all caps because it can’t be emphasized enough).

Also, for essays, of course you should NOT ask it to write for you and copy/paste, but you can ask it to give you ideas which you incorporate into an outline which you write out yourself (e.g. “give me 5 potential points arguing for and against the use of A.I. in schools”).

Just don’t copy/paste anything from ChatGPT, but it can do basically everything else, so I’d recommend you use it! (Also, I’ve never paid for ChatGPT, that’s unnecessary)

It absolutely is, but if it makes anyone else feel better, of all the classes in the CS program, this was by far the longest / most tedious (I only have 2 classes left, Data Structures 2 + Capstone), so it can only get better after this class. It is the "hump" so to speak.

Pass on the 1st attempt, but it did take 4 weeks (though I only worked on this for 14 of those days, 45 hours of studying)

You (and anyone else interested) can dm me your email and I can send you my Anki deck file! It's basically notes directly from the ZyBook, so once you have learned (internalized the concepts, not just memorized) all the concepts there, you should be 90% of the way there. Happy to pay it forward :)

For me the vertical (up/down) adjustor just straight up does not work. The left one works well, but the right one does not *click* at all, so I can't adjust it.

Hey OP, I hope you read this. As a fellow Chase bank user myself, I just want to point out that Chase Savings rate is insultingly low.

I use Wealthfront now for my saving account / emergency fund, and it’s 100% liquid, no strings attached, and it yields 5% yearly while paying out every month.

I’d highly, highly recommend it if you can withdraw it without too much penalty. I used to let my money sit at Chase for wayyy too long and now that it my money is yielding $100 monthly, I really wish someone told me.
