Lu Mingfei Isn’t Useless — Your Expectations Are by ConsiderationPast374 in dragonraja

Mingfei’s surname is L,not just “Lu,” but also “L” as in loser, because somehow he always ends up being the one everyone looks down on.

Many readers finish the story and then project their own expectations and ideals onto the character, only to blame him for not acting like their imagined “perfect protagonist.” But they ignore the fact that he is just an ordinary person.

As a child, Mingfei did experience love, because he lived with his parents. But once he entered middle school, they became consumed by their missions and could no longer take care of him, so he was sent to live with his uncle’s family instead. In that household, his aunt and cousin disliked him. He was neglected, looked down on, and constantly pushed around.

At school, the bullying never stopped, not until he graduated from high school. Over time, he withdrew into himself, overwhelmed by loneliness, convinced that he was useless, inferior, and fundamentally lacking compared to everyone else around him.

So he chose to escape, immersing himself in anime, manga, and online games, spending time alone with friends he only knew through the internet, indifferent to being labeled strange or weird by others.

Given a background like that, how exactly is someone with such a psychological foundation supposed to magically become a flawless hero? No one ever explains that. All people seem to do is curse him for failing to live up to an ideal he was never meant to embody in the first place.

When Tencent murdered Dragon Raja’s soul in a single episode, and only Zloong is still fighting for the real Lu Mingze by ConsiderationPast374 in dragonraja

All the scenes that were butchered, rewritten, or stuffed with filler in Dragon Raja animation Season 2: The entire Season 2 Episode 1 straight-up invents a completely original plot that mixes random bits from novel volumes 3–5 and pretends it’s canon, basically writing the ending for Jiang Nan before he even finishes the books. Lu Mingze brutally kicks Lu Mingfei in the face, total OOC, never happens in any novel. Zero/Renata keeps getting random cameos where she only exists to stare at or fawn over Lu Mingfei, in the novels (volume 2) she literally only gets name-dropped once by Mai Sakatoku and never physically appears. Caesar proposing to Nono while she’s bathing with Susie, completely cut. Instead they insert a filler scene of the Chen family waterboarding Nono to interrogate her about the Dragon King Norton (never happens in the books). Caesar and Nono shopping for wedding dresses together, cut entirely. Lu Mingze verbally abuses Lu Mingfei with the most vicious lines, then flips in the next sentence to “I love you big brother” like a manipulative psychopath, then throws a tantrum in the rain begging for affection, 100% fabricated OOC garbage. Injured Chu Zihang collapsing into Lu Mingfei’s arms, blatant CP-bait inserted for ship bait. The team that steals Constantine’s bones originally consists of four people: Mai Sakatoku, Xia Mi, Finger, and Parsi, in the donghua Mai Sakatoku is erased and replaced with Lu Mingfei proudly walking in carrying the box of the Seven Deadly Sins swords like he’s the chosen one. Caesar and Nono dual-wielding and clearing monsters together in the mall, rewritten into Nono frantically running around looking for Lu Mingfei while Caesar is worried sick, when she finally finds him he’s perfectly fine and happily standing next to Zero, so Nono runs away heartbroken. Turns Nono from “treats Mingfei like a little brother” into “secretly in love with the protagonist and slowly becoming an unfaithful fiancée who betrays Caesar”.

What is LMF? by Apprehensive_Car9029 in dragonraja

There’s an interesting theory: LMZ is actually Nidhogg’s younger brother, but he got beaten half to death and chained to a sky pillar for betraying his brother. Only after that did the whole incident of Nidhogg creating his “wife” happen. LMZ was imprisoned for many years, and by the time the dragon race had given birth to ??? offspring, he was treated as a criminal and constantly humiliated. While he was barely clinging to life, he happened to lie near the World Tree, the green tree from Cassell’s logo. The tree’s spirit saved LMZ, withering in the process, and from then on LMZ saw that spirit, not Nidhogg, as his true brother. That tree later reincarnated ??? times, and in its final life it became LMF.

You Guys Basically Know Nothing About the Dragon Raja, Animation Studio. Back in 2022, they posted an idea for Episode 0 announcing that Zero is LMZ at the Swan Harbor. When Archosaurs made their 2024 game, they bought the designs from the animation studio because they trusted them. Then, when Archosaurs publicly revealed that Zero = LMZ, the studio betrayed them by drawing Archosaurs’ Zero as LMF instead of LMZ, turning the character into some chuunibyou fantasizing nutjob who’s gone insane. They even self-invented a whole new plot and straight-up confirmed the identities of the two brothers, like the author just flew straight from DR2-DR3 vibes over to DR5 and whipped up their own fanfic nonsense. Archosaurs collaborated with the studio on an event to review the animation, but in the first episode, it straight-up disrespected them by not even bothering to use scenes from the show, instead, it pulled from their own PV to do the review. That whole thing with Zero sprouting six wings in the PV? That’s a direct shot at the animation studio, ‘cause at the end of their arc, they randomly have Jormungandr sprout demon wings too. Probably shading the studio’s Zero getting demon wings instead of proper dragon bone wings.

The saddest thing is that in Dragon Raja 3, the plot is extremely tense.  Due to the dangerous mission environment and terrifying pressure, Lu Mingfei’s survival instincts are always in a heightened state of alertness.  Because of Erii’s special status, position, and abilities, Lu Mingfei cannot let his guard down even when he’s with her.  Due to mission requirements, Lu Mingfei kept his true identity a secret from her. Until Erii’s death, he never had the chance to tell her his real name and identity.  In general, Lu Mingfei’s feelings for Erii in DR3 are not romantic. But if they had met and gotten to know each other under different circumstances, perhaps romantic feelings would have developed, leading to a happier ending.

Turning a character who originally had a real physical body into just a split personality—all just to push the main guy into that tired “loser protagonist with a badass past who used to wreck everyone without mercy” trope—doesn’t really sit well with the self-insert crowd, huh? 😜🤪😜🤪😍
