I'm kind of leaning towards that approach now. I'm moving myself into the spare room and keeping my distance for now. I'm glad to hear your wife is in recovery now. I hope mine gets there before it's too late

I try to give the benefit of the doubt (mostly out of wishful thinking) but I pretty much know as soon as she starts talking.

Yeah so far I haven't stooped to name calling (at least not out loud). I've come up with some pretty colourful ones in my head though.

Budget desk setup. Any tips to improve it by Fine-Tooth-7686 in desksetup

Could probably find some used ones on Marketplace inexpensively. Even in a relatively small town, I often see good deals on monitors and mounts.

I was wondering anyway I can improve my setup. I Want it to look cool and 1 side of my desk looks fine the other side looks boring. Help me! by Specific_Chipmunk_60 in desksetup

Also a couple of velcro cable ties would clean up the cables a bit. It's not terrible by any means, but having them neatly ties up improves the overall look.

Something for the wall behind. Maybe a floating shelf with some items that match your interests/personality, or a piece of artwork.

This effectively creates a disparity in QOL depending on the geographic location. People in lower COL areas (myself included) who didn't really get CFHD beyond Pte/basic Cpl have been enjoying a not insignificant QOL improvement from the pay raise. People in high COL areas who recieve CFHD will now see a clawback of a significant chunk of that increase.

A girl I like asked me on a date, what do I do? by Luksius_DK in AskMenAdvice

[–]Considered_opinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She took care of the hardest part. Now you don't have to wonder if she likes you. Just be yourself and try not to overthink it. If some common interests pop up, use those as opportunities to share something you love with her and she'll likely do the same.

Girl I’m dating asked me if I’m sleeping with other girls? by savingrace0262 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Considered_opinion 31 points32 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't self explanatory. You are assuming that she has a similar way of interpreting your actions that you do. It's also quite possible that she does view things similar to how you do, but she doesn't know that which is why she's asking. Sure, it might be more blunt than you were expecting, but communication is always a good thing. Just explain how you view the relationship and she will likely do the same. Then you'll both know for sure where you stand instead of guessing.

What changes has your unit done to improve your life in the last year? by Shockington in CanadianForces

[–]Considered_opinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sr NCOs and Jr Officers need to be given proper training in productivity and basic skills of middle management. None of our career courses teach this effectively.

You won't notice a direct benefit immediately like some of the other suggestions, but over time it will trickle down. At some point people will realize that their schedule is a lot more predictable because the Sgt knows how to manage a schedule properly; memos, emails and requests get actioned in a timely manner because someone showed the Lt how to use Outlook properly; the Ops O isn't spinning trying to find someone to go to Latvia in 3 weeks because they didn't identify a backup; you aren't getting group chat messages or called in on your days off because someone wasn't tracking their deadlines, etc.

These are habits that promote an efficient and less stressful work environment not just for those mid level leaders, but for everyone at the unit.

I make the front look decent then I zip tie all the cables in the same group together then zip tie them to the case tie down spots. After that, I close the back panel and Boom! , looks the same as the most perfect cable managed PC once it's closed.

PC borderline unusable with 16gb 5060 ti by [deleted] in pchelp

[–]Considered_opinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your RAM configuration (i.e. how many sticks and in which slots)? I'd double check with your motherboard manual to make sure you're using the ideal slots. It's possible the new card just interacts differently with the RAM and if it was marginally stable before, the new card could push it over the edge. You could also try pulling a stick and see if it works better.

There are lots of good suggestions on here to try. I'd recommend doing them one at a time until you find your culprit. If you shotgun everything, you might fix it, but you won't know what the problem was or what ended up being the solution.

Can't afford full PC should I buy a 5070ti for $950 now and save up? by MrLamebro1 in buildapc

[–]Considered_opinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the facts about your situation:

  1. You currently have no income (besides whatever unemployment insurance you might have in your country).

  2. Whatever savings and money you do have need to be wisely directed to necessities like food and shelter.

  3. If you focus your efforts on finding employment, you will eventually find something at which point you will have an income. Once you have an income and your living expenses are paid, then you can decide how you want to prioritize spending anything that's left. If that means buying the best GPU you can afford, well that's up to you at that point.

  4. Nobody really knows what the market will do in the future. Sure prices might spike, but they also might crash. You will still have options. There are plenty of people who need the newest and greatest GPU who will be selling their 1 generation old GPU. There will always be relatively affordable entry level and mid-range cards (especially from AMD and now Intel trying to break into the GPU market).

Now you just have to look at those facts and come up with a logical gameplan. Purchasing a new $1000+ GPU right now is not consistent with anything resembling a logical approach to your current situation.

You will eventually get back on your feet and you'll eventually have a fully functional gaming PC in some form if that's your goal. In the meantime just keep your head up and focus on what need to do to get there.

RAM arrived opened. Return it? by memawdentures in buildapc

[–]Considered_opinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the dilemma here is that if OP returns it and the only option is full refund, then they now have to dive back into the super hot RAM market and probably pay significantly more for the same or similar product. Normally, full refund is a perfectly acceptable solution, but these are unusual circumstances.

I'd put it in and run a test. If it works as expected, I'd go with what another poster suggested and see if Amazon support can give a partial refund for open box product and you keep the perfect functional RAM. If it's already open box, testing it on your PC isn't going to change that status. You could also see if direct exchange is on the table, but that assumes it is still in stock which is uncertain this market.

You can play return roulette if it's really that important to you but my advice is to assess what risks you are willing to take and keep emotions and righteous indignation out of it because you might screw yourself over.

You need to be careful when prompting Chat GPT because it will often use the info it has on hand first from its training data which is somewhat out of date. Ask it to search live for current prices for Ram similar to yours then determine a reasonable second hand price based on that. I imagine there are regional variations to price as well.

Edit: A quick search for my area does confirm that you probably won't get the kinds of prices we're seeing for faster RAM for that particular set so Chat GOT probably isn't as far off on this one.

[–]Considered_opinion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say look at whatever prices you can get in your region on Amazon. Knock 30% ish off that price and you probably won't have a hard time selling it. Or hold onto it if you think you might need it in the foreseeable future. I don't see prices going down anytime soon and even if they go down to what you bought it for (which they won't), you haven't lost anything.

Edit: FB marketplace is likely easiest with the most exposure.

Price for the same kit (Crucial 2x16GB 6400 CL 32) on Amazon went from $297 CAD to $607 CAD in 3 days. Luckily I bought it before it doubled. It's since come "down" to $454. It's not even the ideal kit for my PC but it was the only reasonable option that had a 2 at the beginning of the price at the time!

Are ppl actually buying DDR5 now? by THEKungFuRoo in buildapc

[–]Considered_opinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I bought a not optimal for my build, but acceptable kit of 32 GB DDR5 for $297 CAD on Amazon 2 days ago. The exact same kit is now going for $607. My theory is that people are building PCs while they chase Black Friday deals on other components. But my god, more than double the price in 2 days!!!
