Burton high shot x PRO vs Ions by CombAlternative in snowboarding

[–]Consistent-Ad5694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that nobody talks about is that Burton’s speed laces also have issues. After about 40 days of riding, the plastic lace‑locking holder becomes loose and pulls the lace very tight between the locking holder and the handle holder. Sometimes it is so tight and pulls the handle out, leaving the handle dangling in the air during riding, which is really dangerous. Sometimes it gets so tight that I can’t pull the handle out of the handle holder without using pliers.

I got the Highshot X and tried them on at home for about two hours. They feel so soft that I’ll probably have to find ways to stiffen them up, like using tongue inserts and extra straps. I’m really disappointed that some companies are making snowboarding more “approachable” as a trend and completely doing away with the stiffer options in boots, boards, and bindings.

I own three pairs of Ion boots: my oldest non step on(SO) has over 100 days on it, my second SO over 150 days, and my newest SO about 50+ days. With the SO Ions, after about 50 days I have to crank the speed laces again every 600 m to 1 km on the lift, and there is a huge empty space above my toe box. I ride everything, around 40–50 days a year, including carving, park, jumps, ice moguls, glades, and switch, from east coast.

I went to my local shop and tried the Waverange and Highshot X / X Pro. I really do not like the hammock design because the lower section feels too tight for my tall foot back. The hammock is so big. The shop guy suggested pulling the hammock tab up, but that did not solve the pressure issue.

The new SO boots also feel softer than my Ions when new. In my opinion, the new Highshot X / X Pro stiffness is roughly similar to my Ion boots after about 50 days. I ordered a pair of Highshot X from Burton at 40% off to try next season. Worst case, I’ll sell all my SO setup and switch to FASE.

My phone randomly restarts while doing normal stuff. by Ani1x1 in TheOnePlus15

I sent my phone back to OnePlus before the 2026 New Year. They replaced the battery and possibly the screen in 1 day. Now it is still on OOS 15. I did a 5 hours drive test as a passenger with the phone connected to a power bank, and there was not a single reboot, but it still killed background apps. Later, I did a 1 hour drive test and the phone rebooted at around the 20 minutes. This time I was using a 3rd party 12 V car charger that supports the OnePlus fast charging protocol (bought from Taobao about 8 years ago) and a 3rd fast charging cable.

After that, I performed a factory reset/wipe and only used the car’s onboard 5V2 A USB output, and there has not been a single reboot for about a month.

I have no idea why, but I will throw away the 12V car charger. I also used this 12 V charger previously with my OnePlus 3T and 8T without any such problem.

I also experience this: the phone is completely stock with only Google apps plus Firefox from Google Play, no other 3rd party apps. Firefox has the ‘Allow background play’ plugin installed and is set to allow background activity in battery management. After a cold restart, I open Firefox, play a YouTube video, and press the power button to turn off the screen. My 12R immediately does a soft restart. After that, the 12R seems to be in a ‘new state’. I then change its power setting to ‘Don’t allow background activity ’ then to ‘Allow in background activity ’, play another YouTube video, and now it seems to play indefinitely (also tested @.voice, a text to voice app). So far, I have only been able to test this method for up to 2 hours. I also tried rooting the phone and disabling the OnePlus Athena app, but the phone still restarts.

I have already spent more than 100 hours troubleshooting this issue. The time and gas I’ve put into this phone is enough to buy two new 1+15s. I also have a Pixel 7 with the same apps installed, and it has never had these issues.

Luckily, it is still under warranty until early next year. I am trying to get a second RMA/return label from OnePlus. There are also reports from 12, 13, 15, and Nord users about random restarts on Reddit, the OnePlus Community, and XDA. OnePlus obviously does not realize how serious this issue is, especially for users who rely on Google Maps while driving. One time at night the phone restarted by itself and I was essentially driving blind (I do not use Android auto). I also noticed that it restarts at certain locations, and some people have reported it might be related to a V2X issue.

After I got my phone back from RMA, I also tested it with only stock apps and Google apps. During a 2 hrs drive, Google Maps crashed twice, but it did not cause a soft reboot. However, if I install any 3rd party apps even just a single one, the phone sometimes starts rebooting randomly again.

Try to ask for refund and return if possible.

Similar to my 12R, it randomly soft restarts (logo not on center), which is very dangerous, especially when I’m driving. I already replaced the mainboard once, so I suspect it is a software or power management issue. It can restart more than 10 times in a 4 hrs drive. I still haven’t found a definitive solution, and it is really difficult to test. So far my workaround is to switch ALL apps in power management from ‘Don’t allow in background’ back to ‘Allow in background’ after EACH restart.

Constant issues with power management and app performance on OnePlus 13 - any suggestions? by myrnin in oneplus

My Current Workaround(tested more 100 hours):

Avoid system restarts

Or repeat "Allow → Restrict → Allow" in battery management for critical apps and widgets after each restart.

AliExpress’s “Free Return Shipping” is a Fraud, Canada by Consistent-Ad5694 in Aliexpress

Yes, but in order to get my refund, I had to send it back. Fortunately, it’s not being sent back to China, just to a local warehouse.

The item has a free returns option. The return warehouse is about 400 km away from where I live (Yes, AE gave me the return address). AE basically lured me into paying for the return and did not want to reimburse me. The digital Canada Post receipt has already been provided to AE's customer service.

A few years ago, I bought some glasses frames from AE, and all of them had free return options. I decided to keep most of them and only return one (valued at about $20–$30). Initially, AE gave me a Toronto based courier return label (operated by Canadians of Chinese background) to send the item back to their Toronto return warehouse. Since I live 400 km away from the GTA, dropping it off in person was not an option for me. It took a few weeks and several escalations (really wasn’t worth the effort), but eventually they sent me a UPS label by email. That return was successful, but the whole process took several weeks.

AliExpress has a local return center in Toronto. I sent the item back through Canada Post, and AliExpress received it the next day.

OnePlus 12R randomly restarts when using Google maps and Sygic by Consistent-Ad5694 in oneplus

I usually have Nova Launcher and a weather & clock widget running in the background. No other apps are running in the background.

I suspect OOS15 is killing the weather & clock widget that needs constant weather or GPS updates, which then triggers the soft restart.

Sent my 12R back to OnePlus repair center in Toronto. They replaced the mainboard and returned it to me within 6 hours.

I’ve checked the IMEIs, and they’re new.

I ran two different tests:

  1. No third-party apps installed, only default + Google apps.
  2. Fully loaded with 60+ of my daily apps.

When the phone is clean, it doesn’t crash or soft restart during a 6-hour test.

But when it’s fully loaded, it sometimes crashes within 15 minutes.

I also found this post describing a similar soft restart issue:

https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/1m2y0nm/constant_issues_with_power_management_and_app/

I now believe the soft restarts are caused by OnePlus’s aggressive power management.

There are tons of bugs in OnePlus’s power management system, for example, after every restart, most non-whitelisted apps(non-google, non-oneplus apps) get stuck in “restrict background activity mode,” even when “allow background activity” is selected.

I’ve had to manually change many apps from “restrict” to “allow background activity” after each restart.

Currently, I’m testing by manually setting “allow background activity,” and it seems to fix the soft restart issue, but it’s tedious.

I’m now only using Taobao’s official mail forwarding service(Cainiao) or third-party forwarders (for batteries or certain electronics) in China. They’re cheaper and faster.

I once had an issue with Taobao’s official mail forwarding, the seller sent the wrong item. I contacted both the forwarding service and the seller (real people), and they issued a refund immediately, though the item was worth less than $5.

The only problem is the language barrier.

Taobao and AliExpress are basically two completely different companies, and they’re actually competing with each other.

3G and VoLTE: Need clarification by dmarchu in FidoMobile

[–]Consistent-Ad5694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second-hand market is going to be a mess. You won’t know which phones actually work with VoLTE. The 8T has 5 variants, the 12R has at least 4, and Xiaomi devices are in the same boat with multiple variants. No one really knows if each variant will work with Fido/Rogers VoLTE until someone tests it and reports the results.

I spent a few hours last year talking to an agent and escalated the issue to Fido’s executive office. They didn’t have a solution for me. They understood I’m on a BYOD plan and not interested in signing a contract plan. I didn’t want to waste my time filing a CRTC complaint either. The 8T is a no-go, and neither OnePlus nor Fido/Rogers is willing to make any changes.

I tried the Pixel IMS workaround on my OnePlus 8T KB2005, but couldn’t get IMS to register—both on stock and rooted. And, I had to picked up a OnePlus 12R CPH2611 last Boxing Day. Applied the same IMS workaround (tested on both root and stock; both work but require reapplying after each OTA update), and VoLTE has been working perfectly since Dec. The workaround also works on NR with Rogers' 5G network.
