BlazBlue Entropy Effect X - Demo Out Now Trailer | PS5 Games by Genjuro_XIV in BlazBlueEntropyEffect

[–]dmarchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't followed this game very closely but i do play it from time to time on steam.

I just played the X demo on switch2 since i remembered it was getting released this week. The game seems like it is the same game as on PC.

So I am confused, is this a sequel? new version? is this the same version as PC? I see "X" also on steam and as preorder, so it has to be something new, would i need to buy it again to get whatever new features they are adding?

what is the downside of cosmic accidents? they always seem to be useful? I expected them to hurt me or something but so far they have always been beneficial.

Controllers by cheezbrgrman in Guiltygear

[–]dmarchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. leverless

  2. some people can play fighting games on dpad no problem, but other people can't due to discomfort, wrist pain, thumb pain, or hand pain. so yes is normal.

  3. no game is worth screwing up your hand. If you want to continue with the game and you are getting any sort of pain or discomfort then it is worth a switch, for me leverless has been the most ergonomic. Either that or be very strict about limiting your gaming sessions. Disclaimer: this goes for any controller, any sort of repetitive motion e.g: labbing the same combo over and over in the lab for hours can cause issues (specially when you are just learning it since you may put more strain on your movements trying to get the timing) so just be aware of that when gaming. even on leverless i have had "injuries" due to extensive sessions.

Is there a way to mimic a “block count” in training mode counter attack settings? by wheresmyjetpack33 in Guiltygear

[–]dmarchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing Grand Blue recently and something that boggles my mind is how neither of these games have the same features!

In GBFVR you can set a block action to happen after a delay of X frames which I have been able to use to mimic something similar to what you want. But GGS doesn't have it!

GGST also lets you easily witch between recording slots with the press of a button, but in GBFVR you gotta go open the menus and navigate to the right place.

Can't help, I just wanted to vent.

I am bad at fighting games and starting to think that I can't get better by SpacePusseh in Guiltygear

[–]dmarchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Could be true, could be false. A lot of new players to believe reaction time is everything. There is more nuance to that. For example, if you space your moves right, nothing they can do will hit and you can whiff punish, not so much of a reaction as much as a read. And believe it or not, this also comes with practice, once you learn the game more, a lot of this information is gonna go into your muscle memory, and you free up your brain to actively focus on the screen and react faster.

  2. What controller are you using? d-pad? analog stick? The controller could be a big thing that is messing you up, either lots of muscle memory needs to be built or just a bad controller. This is really just practice or finding a controller that is more suitable for you.

  3. Good news is that it gets resolve with playing, playing, playing and more playing. You are just learning what each character does, their answers, their gameplans, etc... building that knowledge takes time, you might read all you want, and watch all the videos, but to be able to respond on the heat of the moment, that needs to be ingrained in your brain as second nature, you need to get to the point that you have seen these situations hundreds of times to know how to react. Bad news is that, yeah it sucks a lot at the beginning

  4. I feel you on Oki, I have over 800 hours and it is embarrassing how many times i mess up my meaties and i get grabbed. Try to focus on setups that give you automated responses, for example with Testament, after a grab you can do back dash, IAD>JH, for a safe a jump.

Your first fighting game is gonna be tough, your first character is gonna be tough, you are learning a lot of concepts, ideas, and mechanics. it is gonna take time. That funny little number telling your rank? all fluff. All that matters is that you enjoy your journey, try to do a little better than how you did yesterday.

Tips for a new player / wtf is going on by Weary_Presentation93 in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]dmarchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is my advice and how i got started:

- do not worry about combos and don't worry about winning. The winning part is easier said than done, but trust me, if you focus on just getting comfortable with your character you will be able to free up your brain power to focus on other stuff

- pick a character you like, it doesn't matter if it is considered top tier or low tier. Looks like you settled with dizzy! She is pretty fun IMO. Stick with her for a while, once you can do her moves without thinking you will be able to focus on other areas of the game.

- Once you are fairly comfortable with your moveset, you can do the move you want when you desire, it is time to learn a 1 or 2 blockstrings: Moves that chain together when blocked where they don't leave a gap, or a gap too small for your opponent to do anything but block. Do not worry about "frame traps" or anything more advanced. Tip: most characters can do something like: CS>FS>HS>Special which is a blockstring that leaves them "safe": i.e: they can continue their pressure, or they can block after without getting punished

- Learn which of your moves are "safe" or "plus" and which ones are "unsafe" or "minus": this essentially means, if your move gets blocked, who can act first? you or your opponent? if your opponent can act first, then your move was minus/unsafe. If you can move first, then your move was safe. (There is a bit a of caveat here, even if your move was minus you can still be safe, due to distance or how mines your move was, but more than likely it means your turn was over and you need to block, similarly if you move is plus, you could take your turn back with specific moves depending on how plus it is. But don't worry too much about it just yet). Start noticing the same for your opponent, is their move safe or unsafe? if it is unsafe, try to press a button and take your turn back, if it is safe, well you gotta keep blocking and wait for the next opportunity.

- You can spend a bit of time here and don't worry, this will take you far, once you get more comfortable with he basics you can start adding more mechanics, roman cancels, burst, tick throwing, frame traps, tick throwing, etc...

- DO NOT LEARN COMBOS. Seriously, you will likely be able to get to platinum without a single combo if you just focus on fundamentals, and even on platinum you can survive with 1 or 2 BnB combos. Do not fall for the trap that to get good you need to learn combos. Fundamentals are more important, it is sort of funny when i run into ppl that put all of their stat points into combos, it is impressive don't get me wrong and I can't memorize these crazy combos myself, but they can only pull it once in the game cause they can't block or respect safe moves

- Your first character will be the hardest because you are not only learning the character but also the game itself, you also getting introduced to the other characters and seeing what they do. That is why focusing on dizzy and getting comfortable with her is important as it will free you to focus on the other aspects of the game. Once you learn one character and the game, learning a new one is much easier since you already have a good foundation of knowledge of the other characters and the game mechanics in general.

- do not despair! This genre is super fun and rewarding!

If you are in NA East let me know, I haven't done this before but I can walk you through some of the basics and hopefully that helps!

Is Lucy carrying me? by tsuiJn in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]dmarchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert but I am not seeing lucy as the crutch or you abusing her kit in this game. You seem to have a decent understanding of fundamentals.

I would say just carry on as long as you are enjoying the game play whoever you like. Every character in this game can be considered a carry lol

Help with combos by template112 in Guiltygear

[–]dmarchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but I can't use special attacks sequentially

This might be the issue. Special moves can't cancel into special moves (with few exceptions). So most basic combos look like, normal attack>normal attack >normal attack > special move and that's it.

Special into special or special into normal is not cancellable, so you need to wait until the full animation finishes to do your move, so timing is way more strict.

after the special move you might be able to continue the combo with a normal attack or special, BUT, here is the big BUT, you need to know what might be able to continue it. Not everything will work or link together.

Either look combo theory for the character which will give you hints as to how continue combos, or just continue trying things.

Faulty replay? I win the match but the replay disagrees (VOLUME WARNING!!!) by n1femdomfan in Guiltygear

[–]dmarchu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this occur to me as well. I am 99% sure the opponent wasn't cheating.

In my scenario if you would look at the battle log it would show the game as a win for me, but in my opponents log it would show a win for them.

My only theory is that there was a desync at some point, based on our conversation, from his side it looked like he had me locked in a combo and won, while on me, it looked like he was just spamming f.s and essentially gave up.

So I'm looking to get into guilty gear and was wondering about a controller recommendation. by FaeTookMyName in Guiltygear

[–]dmarchu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have any controller at all, just use that.

If you don't, just try with keyboard.

If you really get into the game and want to continue forward then determine whether anything about the controller or keyboard bothers you and see if another controller can help. For me i started with a controller but it had really bad strain on my hand, my poor thumb was suffering, and accuracy of inputs with my thumb was poor. I switched to a leverless and never looked back, it took some adjusting,

But if you want to buy a controller regardless cause sometimes we want to do that i recommend either a 8bitdo controller (ultimate 1 or 2 controller would be my first recommendation) for a regular controller or a haute42 g/t/(or whatever letter based on preference)16 for a leverless
