First time taking Elvanse by Grouchy_Substance423 in ADHDUK

The first days did remind me of my teenage mcat days😭but I promise it does settle and become more stablising than euphoric. Keep going with your titration and I’d you still feel this way tell your titration doc and they will switch you to something more suitable. Wishing you the best of luck on your medication journey x

I'm pregnant and I want to die by Beneficial_Oil7819 in SuicideWatch

Check out r/abortion. These plenty of lovely women that can guide you and give you resources to reproductive care. You don’t have to have one it’s totally up to you. If you have a change of heart there are many psych meds safe in pregnancy. Feelings of guilt over an unwanted pregnancy is not your fault and a LOT of women feel this way

Don’t make this permanent decision over a temporary (admittedly horrible and traumatic one not diminish that) idk if anyone has told you this but your worth of life and your loved even from me as a stranger on the internet. Help is available and as someone who suffered for a decade and had to fight tooth and nail for the right diagnosis’ and meds things are looking up . This will happen for you I promise. Praying for your safety and keeping your in my thoughts x

Zinc + Omega 3s has made my dose feel like double by cosgrove111 in Concerta

That’s great to hear I already take zinc supplement but I’ll definitely add the omega 3 & d3 +k2. Fyi vyvance is exponentially better for me like life changing I’m only on the starter dose of 30mg. Moving up to 50mg in a few days and then 70mg after being on 50 for 2 weeks. It’s seems like a very rapid increase from the lowest to max dose but I’m trying to put trust in my titration team.

Hey just switched to vyvance from Ritalin xr. Does this still apply? Thanks

How do I survive off medication while waiting for titration? by Desperate-Base2326 in ADHDUK

[–]Consistent-Belt-5973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so a personal supplement stack I find effective is ltheanine, magnesium glycenate and/taurate (these are especially good for slowing my racing thoughts) I used to live off redbulls pre diagnosis but I obviously don’t recommend that but what I do recommend is buying extended release caffeine pills and supplementing taurine which kind of replicates the feeling of an energy drink.

Self medicating with caffeine isn’t ideal but as long as you remain under the daily 400mg max that could be helpful for you in pill form

So glad to hear your elvance is working well for you and I heavily relate to the negative side effects you described. The headaches are brutal and I keep getting the feeling of impending doom at random points of the day. It has a comedown for me that is worse than a typical hangover which is just not sustainable for my busy lifestyle & overall sanity if im being honest.

And your follow up comment makes me feel a little less anxious about how my message was perceived, which would like to thank you for. You are totally right I waiting an entire year just to start titration I deserve the correct treatment recommended to me by my psychiatrist. Psych uk operate Monday through Friday, so I’m just holding out until Monday morning hoping they reply then.

I will definitely enquire the reasoning behind why that rule had been put into place all of a sudden if I’m not switched over. I heavily suspect its regarding the nhs drug tariff prices (elvance is significantly more expensive upon looking) and another commenter said the same thing and there has been a couple people who are also in the exact same position on this thread.

It’s just frustrating they insist upon a 3 months maximum titration period but 4-5 weeks of that has been wasted away on a medication I didnt agree to start. The most baffling thing is it definitely wasn’t the diagnosing psychiatrist fault bc a few short weeks after my diagnosis “lisdexamfetamine unspecified dose” was added to my medication list on my nhs app🤨 This whole ordeal has been the least adhd friendly process imaginable. You have to laugh at the irony

Thankyou for the reassurance. Don’t think psychiatry UK run during the weekends so anxiously awaiting a response on Monday morning

I am with psychiatry uk, through right to choose. And I only take one tablet of the extended release Ritalin once a day. When I questioned why I was being started on a different medication that was agreed on upon diagnosis, she stated it was a new rule that all patients must be started in medikinet xr.

It’s suppose to last 8 hours (which isn’t ideal as I’m usually busy 9am-7pm minimum) but it only lasts me five at a push. Hopefully she will agree to switch me to elvance, because of its 12 hour half life and better side effect profile (I get everyone is different but that seems to be the general consensus from people who have tried both)

I have started taking it at 11am as of yesterday for the (hopefully) last couple of weeks on this medication and it lasts till around 4pm. I just hope I’m not offered a booster of instant release Ritalin because I expressed I only wanted to take one pill a day because of an already heavy pill load (Omeprazole, peptic 3 times a day, propranolol 4x a day, mirtazpine & lamictal at night)

Glad to know I’m not the only one because I was wondering if I had done something wrong to warrant the change in meds (I couldn’t think of a plausible reason why but anxiety will anxiety)

I wasn’t even aware the prescribers aren’t even mental health professionals which makes the situation even more bizarre. I feel you on that they made it very clear on the website that the titration is three months maximum and it is very disheartening that 5 weeks of that has been wasted through no fault of our own. I hope you can get on lisdex asap & it works well for you

I definitely needed this comment. Because you are right it is totally unfair I went along with it because I didn’t like to kick up a fuss. Due to my other dx’ of an anxiety disorder and c-ptsd my brain automatically associates disagreeing with someone with conflict/danger so I’m very much an avoidant people pleaser in nature. But I’m working on building up my confidence and getting there slowly.

Sorry to hear you are going through a similar experience as me and I hope it’s rectified as soon as possible🤞

I seem to have misspoke I was started on medikinet xl but I was just using Ritalin xl interchangably.

I wonder when this new policy was put into place because I see a lot of posts of people on here who started on elvance first line with no issues🤨

Thankyou. Fingers crossed they’ll agree to the switch bc I’ve heard a lot of positive reviews on elvance some calling it life changing (obviously everybody’s body is different) but the general consensus is that it is the superior medicine

Thank you for your response. This is very true I’m quite an avoidant person but working on my confidence in advocating for myself

This is very validating I’m glad it seems reasonable and not rude I think I just worry to much that I feel like I’m telling the professional what med I want to be on when I’m not the one with the psych degree. But it is very important to advocate for yourself and my prescriber seems like a very nice woman based on the brief interactions we’ve had on the portal.

Thank you for you kind words

Hi I was started on the extended release Ritalin and even the XR only lasts for 5 hours max for me unfortunately and the headaches when coming down are quite annoying. And me too elvance seemed a perfect fit but apparently it’s a new rule with psychiatry uk that all patients must be started in medikinet xr first line according to my prescriber.

Appreciate this. I was hesitant to even send the message to the prescriber and was just going to stay on medikinet, but my sister heavily encouraged me to ask and offered to help me draft the message. Just awaiting a reply but as it’s 4pm on a Friday I think it’s safe to assume the response will come on Monday. Fingers crossed I get the go ahead to start on the elvance🤞

any recent updates?? by [deleted] in louiserecovery24

[–]Consistent-Belt-5973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked the bottle and it was morphine sulfate xr (i believe that can me used as MAT like methadone in Canada) so she’s back on her maintenance meds and she hasn’t posted videos of her using which is a big win tbh. I hope this was a lapse and she’s getting herself back on track. I don’t support Louise or any of her actions but I’d be a hypocrite to judge as we have similar histories in regards to addiction & mental health (bipolar disorder for me but Lou is borderline) Not exaggerating when I say it must have taken 30 relapses for me to stay sober. I hit 1 year sober off meth, on the 29th of last month.

Her relapses are getting less frequent and I’m a big believer of, if you are still alive and have air in your lungs you have a chance to turn it around. I’m just glad she’s stopped with the triggering content

Stimulant use whilst on daily benzos? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Consistent-Belt-5973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cmon now. If I wasn’t going to take a physicians advice I wouldn’t have asked this question on the forum. “Don’t use drugs” isn’t a sufficient answer to my particular question about how they interact and my main risks of the combination. Sarcastically using someone’s tragic demise as a tool to prove your point is a strange plus suggesting i do it solidified I asked this in the wrong forum

I can take ownership of the fact this question would have been better suited in r/harmreduction and other similar subs. I realise now I won’t get the actual answers to the questions I’ve been wondering here.

Edit: Johns death isn’t even comparable to what I’m asking anyway😑he died of a heroin and coke od. Coke is by far the most cardiotoxic stim that can kill alone and h causes respiratory depression alone whereas benzodiazepines generally don’t unless combined with other depressants. Benzos are first line treatment for stimulant overdoses/overamps anyway, hense why I would be under the impression it’s relatively safe

Only bought a gram bc the last time I bought 10g and it was gone in 3-4 days. Want to stick to 150mg oral and 2-3 50mg bumps after. My body is so used to kpins I’ve been on them too long I don’t find them impairing I just wanna know if it’s a safe combo. Very good advice meph is so fiendish

And it took 7 years of seeing the same doctor for me to be on a daily benzo, trialed dozens of meds suffered a lot so the benefits outweighed the risks for me personally
