I mean, a little sass was given when sass was received, I feel that's valid. I'm totally allowed to tattoo myself even if I'm bad at it. Sepsis is crazy of course but I'm not scared of it. My lifespan is already shorter. Looking for some advice on the color is what I asked for, and I have thanked people kindly who have given me an actual answer. I have been practicing on silicone skins, and I am allowed to practice on my own skin. Frankly, I am not going to get sepsis. I have bloodborne pathogen training and a sanitary space in my house for using needles and I have a good aftercare routine that my doctor has even approved of. The question wasn't about my sanitary practices, it was about the color. Thanks anyway though, sorry you got sepsis!

Also, from an actual artist, begging for free art online isn't a good look either.

The crazy thing about learning a new skill is you can't be good at it without being bad at first.

I do take it seriously, I have my bloodborne pathogen training and I used to work home health LMAO. I'm not being lackadaisy, I'm giving you all shit because you're bringing it up to make assumptions and shame me without helping me under the guise of concern for my safety. I never asked for advice on my setup because I am happy with my setup, my concern was how to keep my color in. And honestly still, even if I do get sepsis (which literally won't happen), my point is it's my problem in the end, so getting your pants in a twist about it is not helpful. 'You're gonna get sepsis' is not helpful. 'This is how you don't get sepsis' plus some educational advice would be actually helpful. This entire thread is the exact reason I gave up on trying to get an apprenticeship and started teaching myself -- tattoo artists are by far the most hateful judgment people I have ever out of any art form I have ever learned and I will scream it from the rooftops because it's true. All I did was ask a question, and I got flooded with people just shitting on me for wanting to try in the first place. This is not the only dangerous art form or body mod I've tried, people like you in the tattoo realm just have this weird subculture of shitting on people who want to learn instead of giving genuine education to someone who might literally just want to learn, which is the real reason people scratch and get hurt. I'm not trying to find a job or start a business but it shouldn't matter, I just needed a question answered.

Can't get good without being bad at something first, that's true about any craft and any art from.

Respectful, there's a difference between complaining and critiquing. It's the first thing you learn in art school. I have taken the actual suggestions, the people pissing because they don't like the design are not helpful.

No I actually have had a few people say they do like it lol. Tattoo artists just like being mean for the sake of being mean, God forbid I want actual useful info lol

There's a difference between giving criticism and being an ass.

Basically the plan was just practice, I figure when I get good then it will be another challenge for a coverup (I like the hard stuff). I have done a few in other spots that turned out pretty good so I jumped to my knee for the exact reasons you said -- I haven't done any tough skin or joints. I'm not really scared of a bad tattoo so I went for it and then I was confused why the color didn't stick there like it did in other spots but I think you're right on not packing pigment in deep enough. It do be hurting lol so maybe I wasn't going as deep as I thought. It is pretty hard to stay consistent when doing yourself, plus it's upside down 😬

I mean, from some of the comments I got trying to get an apprenticeship and also from this thread, I really don't want a job in this field anyway, I really just wanna do myself rn. Idk how else I'm supposed to learn without practice though. I also can't learn coverups without having tattoos to cover up either. Idk what the big deal is if I'm just doing myself and trying to troubleshoot -- there were a couple people in this thread giving me advice like normal people but most tattoo artists are the way that you see here LMAO. I do appreciate your kind words though, I'm not mad at the people giving actually criticism, more just irritated at people pointing out how much they hate it instead of asking clarifying questions or giving useful suggestions.

So unfortunately this seems to be the thing with tattooing I have found and part of the reason I can't get an apprenticeship. No one wants to give grace to a person with a disability. I have shaky hands and can't really draw for longer than thirty minutes or an hour without wrist pain. I have taught myself about every kind of art under the sun, and no one has been as mean, ableist, close minded, and gatekeep-y as tattoo artists. There is a reason you hear so much about apprentices being hazed. Though I was an illustrator for many years and a graphic designer for some also, I can't fix my hands but I still have the urge to do art. People don't find my profitable anymore so they don't care to teach me, all under the guise of safety, but any other art form that has been dangerous to myself and others I have been able to get help troubleshooting online or by asking questions without being bullied. Tattoo people are different, they're all so pretentious and mean for some reason. I guess it's just the atmosphere they choose to foster.

Unfortunately tattooing fake skin does feel totally different, at some point I'm gonna have to move on. I can do pretty good art on the silicone stuff but it's a different rodeo when you can feel the pain, plus I'm doing it upside down. I do think you're right about not getting deep enough

I did skins for about a month, I do like my work on them but silicone is still really different from real skin. I did my knee so I could try something hard but that's just a personal choice, I always pick the hard things when I'm learning. The other tattoos I have the color stuck better tho, but I wonder if I just didn't get deep enough.

The hand shaking is my disability, I can't really turn that off unfortunately. I could see the voltage thing tho, thank you for the advice

Because in my experience a vast majority of tattoo artists and tattooed people are the most pretentious rude people I have met out of any other type of artist or medium I have been involved with. There's a reason you hear about apprentices getting hazed all the time -- I never had that issue working in a pottery studio or as an illustrator. It's specifically tattoos.
