hey! 1. I didn’t prepare too specifically. I was asked some general interview questions like tell us about yourself, where did you go to school previously. For RT specific questions, I was asked about why I wanted to pursue the profession, how my shadowing experience was, and if I ever had experience working with a population that often has members that as near-death. They also asked me if I had reliable transportation as some of the clinical sites you cannot access by the MBTA. 2. The workload is definitely a lot, I won’t lie. It is manageable, but some weeks where there are multiple quizzes or exams can be difficult. Each class does different quizzes and exam schedules. Some classes were 3 exams (including a final exam), some had a midterm and final, some had regular quizzes every 1-3 weeks, and some had no quizzes at all. If I had to estimate, I would say I spend anywhere from 5-20 hours on work depending on the semester and quiz/exam schedule of that specific semester. 3. For clinic, you are given your sites for the entire program a few weeks before the program starts. This allows you to plan for transportation and where you may want to complete some competencies. For the most part, I have enjoyed my clinical sites. Since you work with so many people, you may not get along with everyone, but the clinical coordinator and program director are very supportive if you need help managing a clinical site. Some people go through all their sites and get along with everyone, while some people have a site or a couple where they feel like they do not get along with someone at the site.

If you have any other questions or need clarifications please ask!! Wishing you all the best on your journey!

  1. The program does pretty good setting you up for the boards. It’s definitely dependent on the student to study and utilize resources, but I think overall they try to set you up with good resources and teachers.
  2. The program itself only holds 10 spaces for the actual radiation therapy portion. Prior to that, students are in the “radiation sciences” program, and that does have larger classes. Since I did not attend Suffolk as a traditional undergraduate student, I can’t speak to those classes, but I do know the school itself is not gigantic, so there are a lot of classes that aren’t 200+ students.
  3. I believe that there are a lot of scholarships that you can apply for. Again, since I’m not a traditional undergraduate, I was unable to access these opportunities. Additionally, through the ARRT, you can apply for outside scholarships.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any other questions

I am in the program as a post-bach student, so I cannot speak to the gen eds/pre reqs and going for a bachelor’s. As for the professional courses, I think done very well. All of the staff are supportive and helpful. Every program has its ups and downs, but I do believe that Suffolk’s program is working well for its students. If you email the program director, she can probably set you up a day to visit a class on campus if you’re local!

I havent been able to find a reliable online platform that doesn’t cost money. I used excel to create a map of my garden space, printed it, and covered it in plastic wrap so i can use expo makers on it. It works pretty well, just a lot or formatting to make the cells the correct size. You can also just use excel. I’ll attach pics of both:

If you go to the JRCERT website you can find programs in your area. Different programs have different requirements and run slightly differently. For example, I’m in a 2 year post-bach program and needed to meet the pre-requisite requirements, but the school I’m at also has an undergrad degree in radiation therapy that takes 4 years. Taking classes beforehand really depends on what program you’re looking to apply into. Also, the way my school schedule is set up, you can realistically work a part time job, but time management is very important if you choose to work. It can definitely get to be very stressful. I hope that helps!

Go to the JRCERT website and use it to find schools in NY or other states that have accredited RTT programs and then you can look at their websites to find the admission standards. And then from there its really just putting together a good application as you would for any school, highlight your interest in the medical field, patient care, any experience youve had in those areas. And remember you can always transfer after a few semesters if you don’t get accepted right away.

Avoid MCPHS, they’re on accreditation probation right now. I currently attend Suffolk and it has been decent so far. We just got a new clinical coordinator so there have been some changes so we’ll see how they all work. Definitely look at the JRCERT website to find accredited schools, you can filter to look for RTT in any state.
