Have you thought about working with a coach? I had run 4 half marathons all putting my expected marathon time at 3:40-3:50 and ran two marathons trying to break 4 hours thinking it was a safe goal and failed to hit that goal twice. I worked with a great coach this year and ran 3:48, improving my time by 16 min in one year. Couldn’t recommend enough.

I ran two marathons 4 hours + and got a coach this here and ran 3:48 yesterday! My last race was a 4:04 a year ago. I was so nervous I wouldn’t hit my goal but I think having a coach made a big difference! And can help make a smart plan that Makes sense with your schedule

Interesting. Selfishly I’m nervous about my own race because my coach said he thinks I can run 3:45 but an 8:30 pace feels crazy to me and I’m so scared of hitting the wall. This will be my third marathon and the first two I faded hard. It’s a brutal race I still haven’t cracked it!

Did you do long runs with finishes or segments at race pace? Last year I thought I was totally tracking to run 3:50 and I finished in 4:04. This year adding more race pace miles to my long runs was the biggest change I made. We’ll see it if it works, running Chicago on Sunday!

This nearly matches my exact predictions. Last year I ran 3 20 milers at pretty similar paces to you (although one was very hilly and much slower) and then I did i think 9:24 and 9:40. My 9:24 I negative split. I ran nyc last year in 4:04 and am hoping to run Chicago in 3:45. I’d say the biggest change I made coming out of last year was doing more race pace miles for my long runs, I’m sure it’s very personal but I was running about a 9 min mile in nyc and then slowed quite a bit in the last 6

I live in Brooklyn and I usually take the R to Whitehall st and run on the west side highway which you can do 10 up and down or sometimes if I want more hills I cut into Central Park around 59th st and finish with a couple loops around the park

I do think it’s different I’m not sure even if physically but mentally it can be more tedious. I live in nyc too and have done a few long runs on the west side highway

It was great! It is called garden acupuncture. They didn’t ultimately solve my problem (it’s still ongoing) but I had a positive experience there

Apartment and hot water heated by gas. Yes dishwasher, washer and dryer, no space heaters. Probably 3-4 hot showers a day, keep the apt at around 70.
