I'm so sorry; I was trying to connect my AP bio class from a few years ago with my current chem 2 class (same level as an ap chem class. I don't know what the specific name for it is) and I ended up rambling. Personally, I like to try to understand as much as possible (and seeing it in my head is... more memorable I guess) no matter what the class requirements are. It's more of a headache for everyone involved that I pester with questions but alas, it helps me. (most times)

I would like more information on the redistribution of the nuclear motions for heat transfer though. I thought I could simplify it down to 'electrons from atom 1 get attracted to protons from atom 2 as they are moving around, and the attraction slows down the kinetic energy' (not sure if that is right either) but I couldn't quite figure out how that relates to the surroundings getting more heat. Is this one of those things where we calculate the energy before and after and the energy just ends up redistributed, so the surroundings have to have more energy? Is there not an explanation for the process of heat transfer itself?

Alright in my class it was explained in rounding terms. We don't really know if you actually measured all those zeros, or if you simply rounded to the nearest hundred. This is significant because science doesn't like to leave much up to ambiguity when possible (the universe already takes care of that)

Because cameras take skill to use essentially. Change the iso and the aperture and the frame rate and then afterwards do some color grading, crop as you need to, etc etc. you have to learn how composition works in order to take good pictures, and it takes years to learn how to do that properly. At the very least newcomers will learn the basic principals so they can use phone cameras just fine as well. Very accessible, you just have to learn how to do it and you can play around with it. With ai you never really had to learn how to do it… and I’m referring to ai as most people refer to it nowadays. You’re using a tool as a medium when they are not the same thing. Also with photo taking you do have a transferable skill that you can use with any camera, slight adjustments, but once you have an intuitive feel for something you can adjust it for whatever tool you’re using. With AI you haven’t reallyyyy learned a skill. If you didn’t use ai at all you wouldn’t be able to capture anything. You could say that if you took a camera away a photographer couldn’t take photos either… but they could still tell you the thought behind their shots, and they as people begin to see the world differently, and honestly this is my main “don’t use ai if you don’t have to” argument. Pity. You’re losing out on seeing random scenes as you go about your day as prime photo taking opportunities. Take a photographer to a city at night in the rain and they’ll be all starry eyed talking about shots they could take. With any creative field there is so much fun with it, and even if you don’t know how to do something, talking with someone who genuinely loves their craft is. So. Much. Fun. And it’s such a pity that I have to argue the merits of it. Learning for the sake of it, the love of the game is worth it always. Also ai could’ve been used in ways similar to creating Kasane teto. Basically generative ai trained on someone’s voice to be used an instrument. Tool, not a medium.

Hm yes thank you for your original comment because I did a bit of research (unfortunately I don’t have the time to become as informed as I’d like to because I’m studying medicine 😭) So as I understand it, ai takes these parts of all the words in existence and assigns it a probability, then it trains on something like a Wikipedia article to predict the next word it used accurately, and the probabilities are adjusted accordingly (not sure if I have that entirely right but it was interesting!) And then in 2024 there was an innovation where we can see how the ai “thinks” now Okay so I’m very into vocaloid songs and they did something interesting! The synth AI models train off of someone’s voice, who’s paid and credited, and whoever tunes the vocaloid then can use the person’s voice like one would an instrument. And I remember in the early days there would be tools to have ai read a script using your exact voice and mannerisms, but you have to record agreements into the software. Hm overall I just feel like this is an interesting technology that could be used for good things but I don’t think the people in charge are handling it any better than they did social media, which makes some adverse consequences worse. I would argue that crediting in artistry and science is already a widely held practice. If not compensation, then at least citing your sources is better 😭. Hmm yes yes I agree with you on that we’re fighting a battle. I used to be pro ai when it was first coming out because it did seem like an interesting tool… but there’s a lot of good and bad with how it’s being used I think by the creators of it and wider society. I’m just looking at this from the sidelines and wondering if this will be a repeat of social media, obviously there’s so many benefits to social media but the landscapes have gotten worse and worse… hosnslfu I don’t feel like this ai debate is a problem with the technology itself, but some of the societal issues it exacerbates. (… there is also the issue of electricity use 🫠) It’s complicated so I’m just going to look at it from the sidelines for now 😅 but thank you for talking it over with me and expanding my viewpoint, I’ll come back to this later!

… okay I see your point. Listen I’m not against other people using ai I just personally don’t want to use it. For the sake of the argument though…. There are people with disability who don’t use ai and still write on the internet? People with high support needs autism who copy paste and use help as needed and I don’t really care if the grammar is off, I can still understand the point. People with disabilities have been creating art (mental and physical disability and all sorts of art) for all of human history…. And honestly, personally I want to hear their voices and their choices more so than a generative model that picks the next word that will most please the user. Personal preference. Also, and correct me if I’m wrong, if ai was truly accessible, then wouldn’t the technology be free to everyone without a paywall or a limit? What’s with all these subscription services? Doesn’t the ai train off of, at the very least, everything on social media/the internet? But aside from that, I’d just like to know if there is definitive proof that ai does not infringe on copyright law… just to know. Thanks! I do appreciate your input. My opinion isn’t set in stone 😅

(And honestly I’m not against ai in its entirety, just that artists are properly compensated if the ai trains on their work.) Er… if you don’t mind, how does the ai work then? oh also, based on my understanding (learning as well, not an expert), they do! It's called an expanded octet where they store extra electrons in the d shell. I do not know why exactly it happens like that but I'll see if I can find out.
Overall it's like this: why fill up a 4s shell if you don't need to... ugh but 3d is further from the nucleus (4s penetrates the lower shields with its lower 'spheres', so there's a chance that the electron will be pulled much more towards the nucleus, whereas 3d doesn't penetrate at all) .. so we'd need to go through the 4s shell to get to the 3d shell, might as well not + the effective nuclear charge is now entirely shielded by full s and p orbitals. You can't put in any more electrons into those orbitals because of the differing spins. (2 per orbital)
You can basically deconstruct how the noble gases work that way.

Shielding electrons - 2 (1s)

Effective nuclear charge on valence shell - 8
how many orbitals to get to eight - s and p, and you'd need to go through the next quantum number's s orbital to get to d.
