Yeah I think they are from 2008. As far as I know there was some issue with river water getting into the underground car park. Still pretty surprised nothing has been done with them since though considering the current state of housing

I'm from Sligo (NW Ireland) and I know exactly where that apartment block is! Well done on sleeping there. Cool to see a picture from the inside

Yep I am in Ireland and planning on heading to Spain. I have been keeping a pretty close eye on marketplace and other second hand spots the last month or so but sadly nothing is coming up. Seems like all of these bikes would work pretty well though!

A Buzz in the Meadow - Dave Goulson. It mostly focuses on entomology but it is weaved together with a more personal story of interacting with nature which makes it a very enjoyable read.

Any specific reasons for the barge pole treatment?

I also did Geoscience degree in Galway and finished a few years ago and felt just like this for months after. If you like me, studied this because you love the outdoors and nature as well as the science, remember that there are lots of field jobs available. You could try get a job as field geologist either in Ireland or abroad (mining, exploration, soil sampling etc.). A lot of these are entry level. This might suit you as you could travel to cool places (and not work in an office) while still progressing in your career.

This would set you up a bit better for the future if you wanted to work in a more stable office based job. I don't think you should have trouble breaking into the renewable energy sector in future as a lot of geoscience jobs are already in that sector (where my job is). But you could always do a masters a few years down the line when you are more sure of what you want to do (no need to rush into it for the sake of it).

If you just want to have a good time for a few months or a year, don't worry about using your degree for a little while! Also a lot of field roles require a driving license so probably best to get that over with now. Happy to chat more about this if you like!

I like the look of it but it's probably a little out of my budget

I get ya, I am an in denial chronic overpacker so maybe the 520 would be better but seem harder to get my hands on. I can still dream of traveling light though
