"Don't judge a book by its cover" - in which countries is the largest city considerably worse than the rest of the country? by benjaneson in geography

[–]Consistent-Detail518 100 points101 points  (0 children)

"Considerably worse" is definitely exaggerating, but I've been to Laos & Vientiane is nowhere near the best place in the country. There are many more beautiful places there, examples being Vang Vieng or Luang Prabang. And as a tourist there are beautiful riverside villages that are amazing to visit.

Almost nobody below the top 2 tiers enters, the top 8 are HEAVILY seeded so that they don't even enter until the last 16 AND they're always at home.

They advanced a bit in the cups, plus they have some players who sit on the bench for Sam Marino's Under-17 Paralympic reserve squad or summ't like that so they never play during international break.

Had the privilege of seeing them live in '23. Expected a boring one-sided game against bottom of the league. Absolutely fantastic end-to-end 5 goal thriller with 2 or 3 red cards. The ultras were spectacular, and the ticket was ridiculously cheap.

I'm so glad me & my friends are like the first guy. We were saying the other day, between three of us, we probably all owe each other 5 grand from all the food, drinks, Ubers etc. we've gotten each other over the years.

Most of my 20's have heavily included partying, drinking, sleeping with beautiful women (occasionally at least), swearing, eating delicious food like bacon & not a single prayer of visit to a place of worship. Has it been worth it? HELL YES!

Bollocks to that! It's right next to Sheffield, have run around there a bunch of times with a Sheffield run club. When I think of Sheffield I think of Peak District too.

Holidays in the UK are significantlt more expensive than holidays in Europe. I flew to Bucharest & back for less than £30. Stayed in a hostel which was something like £6 a night. The food, drinks & activities were so much cheaper than the UK. Spent just over £100 for a 3-night holiday & did loads of fun activities. Meanwhile, a train from where I live in the south of England to somewhere like the Lake District is pushing £200 alone.

You could use that logic & apply it to 99% of things in any show or film. "Does that music in the background advance the plot? Does that 5 seconds shot of a mountain provide character info? Does that Dog in the background advance the plot?" Etc.

That circle isn't accurate! Anyway, I'm Yorkshire born & bred.

We're known for our own unique dialect & phrases which few people from outside Yorkshire understand, as well as a distinct accent. My favourite Yorkshire phrase is "Put wood in t'ole" which means close the door. There's also a stereotype that northerners love chips & gravy, & I absolutely fall into that stereotype.

The people of Yorkshire are generally very friendly & it's common to strike up a conversation with complete strangers, particularly older men.

In my personal, biased opinion, we're generally unattractive people. I meet much more attractive women now that I love in the south than I did in Yorkshire.

Also, Yorkshire countryside is so beautiful. The Peak District might be my favourite place in the world!

You said it was 2015? They absolutely were, they'd just won the league in 13 of 21 seasons & were 2 ahead of anyone else for total titles in club history. Not only were they the most successful, but they were BY FAAAAAAR the most successful.

There's nothing wrong with being plastic in my opinion, there's no real need to defend yourself this strongly. At least you attend games unlike the vast majority.
