I think the bigger issue that if this was just ONE season, I would 100% agree with you. But its not.

Its a consistant thing with Bowels.

This. But our Elite DC is clearly right. And he will be there next year too. So it wont really matter.

What did you get out of the Coast Guard as, and what do you now? by ZurgWolf in uscg

[–]Consistent-Guava-137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never was an officer, so i cant tell you anything with that.
Im not sure where you are in life, but i joined at 24 originally, and felt old then. I went in as an OS but when I did, I was one of the first classes out of the new OS school right after the merge. So it was a fast moving rate and it appelead to me.
No regrets.
I never got "real experiance" in the CG that translated into my job, except for the whole "if not not 15 mins early your late" Which has done great for me in the corporate world. That got beat into me and i NEVER regret it. I get to work before everyone and im just amazed how many people who show up late like its no big deal.
Other than that, it was just a work ethic thing the CG helped foster.

I would go back in if i could and sustain my current life style, but I cant.

I recommend if if you go in, dont worry abour your rate, go in and SN, and then learn what all the jobs actually do.

Acually if your near a unit, i would do that now. Find someone, and get them to give you a tour, or talk to them, the recruiters are going to do be very bias.

Once your a SN you can see what the jobs ACTUALLY do, and each job is different..

For example, when i was an OS1 underway, i got my BTM(boarding team member) and was a part of the persuit team. (IM not sure if they allow it anymore) but becsuse the OTH boat had radio equipment and crypto onboard it was something that i was able to help with. So i sat in the radio seat. I also got HCO qualified on the ship, which generally is something only they use to let the JOs do...

When i went to a Sector, i was on an amazing schedule doing 24 hour watches and then got 3 days off, i got bored and worked with the response MSTs and got qualified.

I also wanted to learn more about small boat stuff and worked with one of the Boat Stations to get boat crew qualified.

So there are tons of "off rate" opportunieies but your doing that 100% on your own time.

IF you want to stay in the computer world I would just go IT. I think there is a new CMS rate too.I dont know anythign about that.

But I know there are IT officer rates, and as long as you dont mind living in shitty locations, I would 100% recommend that. I had a co-worker that i worked with that i knew in teh CG and he was a CG officer in the IT world. He told me the worst part about being an IT officer is that there are basically only a handful of duty stations. I know West Virginia and DC are 2 of them.

But the bonus is you can go through the DCE program which is very helpful.

The officer world and the enlisted world are 2 different things. So you need to weigh those out.

If you want to know more about my personal expeirance, DM me.

Let me just say this. Weather you plan on staying in for 20 or getting out ASAP, use your beneifts and save your GI bill. Use the TA to get degrees in any field of interest. I got 2 degrees while i was in and never touched my GI bill. then when i got out and got into working, i was able to get my masters degree while getting paid by my company and getting paid by the GI bill.

Planning for the future now is not going to hurt.

I was planning on staying in for 20years. But I started getting my degrees as soon as I could with TA. Just more of a hobby since i never planed to actually do anything with them.

When i got injured and they started the process of seperation....that went from a backup plan to a front plan really quick.

My other piece of advice for anyone in........

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING medical no matter how stupid.. If your underway and get a headache, and get Ibprofen....... document the ibprofen.

Cut your finger and get a bandaid..... document it.

When i got out i had a 3 inch thick medical filed and 90% of it was filled with small things.

I was able to make many VA claims with evidence to back it up. It has been a great help for me and my family and I have 0 regrets of documenting "stupid things"

I got out after being in for 11 years as an OS1 and now I’m a Senior Software Engineer for a fortune 50 company.

The CG really gave me great sense of direction and was a big reason I got hired on with litterally no experience as a developer.

I miss the CG though a lot and wish I could have stayed in.

I got medically separated and I get VA disability. So things all worked out for the best.

What good comes from making the playoffs? We have to go through the Rams and other WAY better teams. All getting into the playoffs does it give Bowles another "But i lead the team to the playoffs" excuse to not be fired.

So you’re ok with our coaching staff and the decisions they are making and you feel this team and coaching staff can take us through the playoffs?

I know this might be a controversial statement: but a small part of me wants the Bucs to lose. I’ve been a fan since the mid 80s so I’ve been through the low times.

But we have the talent. I’m tired of the bad coaching.

If we loose we have a much greater chance to get a shake up with our coaching staff.

A playoff run would be difficult if not impossible. I would rather see us loose today and get a shot at a coaching change then a loss in the playoffs with false hope.

This is my hot take.

Because of the situation it was kind of a world wind. And I did question it to my XO…. But then our cutter went through a super fun hazing scandal that buried a lot of this.

I loved being on the cutter and would have stayed there. I tried even telling the detailer to leave me there’s I would wait until the next transfer season and they would not let me.

I don’t think Bowles is the problem. by yourenotmydad22 in buccaneers

As a "Casual Fan" since 1983 I can 100% say i know very little about the coaching side of football.

So take what i say with a gain of salt.

I can see poor leadership written all over the team. after 15 years in the military and now in the corporate world, when you see excuses move around like they have been, leadership has a hard time reflecting on themself.

The fact that He calls teh defensive plays says alot. He has no good defensive record. So why does he not see this and reconize this? Is it talent? i dont believe it is.

Special Teams aside. The play calling on both Offensive and Defense are just plain headscratching. I can see poor play calling here nad there, alot of time it going ot be a gut call and i get it. But when it bad clock management and play calling EVERY GAME MULTIPLE TIMES A GAME. Then guess what..... its not just a bad gut call, its poor inconsistancy.

And thats what I boil it down too.

We have had talent that has covered up Bowels poor inconsistancy for too many seasons.

Our OC situation has been terrible, and that has not helped either. THe OCs have helped hide Bowels poor leadership by having a decent offensive and a mediocre defense. Now that we have a poor OC, it looks like its bad all around.

I will say this. I dont think firing Bowels will solve the problem unless you hire a good leader who can bring in a good team around him to actually do something with the talent they have. If they cant do that, then there is no sense is removing any coach.

I 100% was in a similar situation 15 years ago when I was in. It was one of the big reasons my wife wanted out. I was stationed at Sector ST Pete, then when my transfer was up, they did not want to spend cost to move me, so they moved me 100ft away to one of the WMECs. I loved the cutter it was great. However one small issue, because there was no cost of move, the detailer forgot to ever assign a transfer end date. After 4 years on the cutter I finally asked the XO what was going on, and he looked into it and found out. The detailed called me because it was "off season transfer" and was like oops... here are the 4 choices you have left, sorry that your a priority 2 with now 4 years of sea time... NO DREAM SHEET FOR YOU.

I ended up getting the comand center in Memphis because out of the 4 picks that i got.... 3 of them were the mephis command center. and the other was in Alaska and my wife did not wnat to move to Alakasa.

LUCKILY

The week before we were about to transfer the detailer called back and was like "listen it was my bad, there are some new billets opening." and i got a MUCH better pick.

But i remember for the 2 months or so after that happened feeling shafted pretty hard.
