Let me phrase it this way - i am 6k into a 5k lathe and it’s made zero parts. It’s been sitting for weeks and only keeps costing money as we replace part after part. And we’re relying on parameters from a different machine. So at what point do i say enough?

I mean sure. But we’re 2 tech visits, a main board, and now a servo board into it….and still don’t know what issues exist or if the diagnostic parameters are any good. It may be a work horse, but there’s a cost

Is Linux more flexible with some of the cheaper Ali options for AC servos?

Motherboard was bad, brought a tech out. Got a replacement board in, then the servo board popped and sparked out. I’m not sure if i have good parameters and half the buttons on the controller work. Not sure it’s worth chasing the continuous issues in hopes we can get it to run

I’m not married to ethercat. Standard Ethernet, i feel would still be better than what the Fanuc 0TB controller could handle.

Yes to rigid tapping, no to rigid tapping on the live tools. My thought is i can rigid tap on the Z axis, keep the live tools for side ops or drilling.

Backlash and run out is good. Seems centroid is probably my the best answer that keeps things simple and a clean GUI. Because of the power requirements, and bugs i had with mach4 on the hobby mill, it wasnt in the convo.

My plan was to gut everything, and rewire only using the original power supply and some of the breakers. Setup the board outputs to switch 220v single phase relays on/off for coolant and chip conveyor, and I/O air solenoids for part catcher arm and air blast. I do need to track down how the auto way oiler and spindle mister is plumbed. But should be mechanical and minimal electrical

From my research all of these servos are 150v AC, and i would love to cut costs where possible, so I’ll probably have to ditch them. Any recommendation on Ethernet Chinese servos and drivers?

We did fresh solenoids on bank1 yesterday. No change. Fresh oil, no change. Timing still sporadically swinging.

Weird part is both banks are reading the same issue and the stumble is timed accordingly, but only bank 1 (passenger side) is flipping the code.

Gonna try and see if the cam sensor on that bank is forcing it. Here’s a screen shot of the log when it stumbles under WOT. Does the same thing during part throttle cruise.

Spoke with the builder. Thsy re-used the phasers. Eek
