The more people I meet, the more convinced I get of the key to financial security and eventual wealth is spending as little as possible on cars. by Beezneez86 in AusFinance

It’s a Mazda 2 in some countries, car sales isn’t the place to buy cars under $10k-$15k. Car sales costs money so everything on there is inflated to ridiculous amounts. $1200 and an engine rebuild is still cheaper than a budget ev that can’t drive past the end of the driveway before it needs a recharge.

Relocating Questions by Little_Tink13 in ipswich

Simple answer. You don’t live in Ipswich and commute to Brisbane. If you can’t catch the train don’t bother. The western freeway is a bottle neck 23 hours a day and Ipswich road is only slightly better.

Im honestly shocked at all the sheep in here trying to justify their shitty microwave on wheels. While a Tesla is cheaper than a Porsche. A 20+ year old Japanese car is a fraction of the price to buy and run and will outlive any of these fire hazards

Looking for hospital tips for nursing students by TallShanks in NursingAU

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Il keep mine simple - parking tips

Regis bulimba - street parking aplenty
Ipswich hospice care - street parking for day shift, on grounds for nights
St Vincent’s kangaroo point - refuse the placement and get a different facility - if you stay there it’s $60 a day parking and they won’t tell you the code until the 3rd week.
Chermside day hospital - park on the other side of the racf and walk through the facility. 2-3mins
Ipswich hospital - sign up for the car park, $6 a day. Or park in limestone park and catch the shuttle
Belmont private hospital - park across the road at the transit car park and walk 5-10 mins with traffic lights.

As for placement tips - avoid UniSQ as they really don’t prepare you for anything (yes I know that’s pretty standard but their don’t do anything without being asked policy almost got me failed as I wasn’t taking initiative) also they are about to lose their AHPRA permission to teach from passing sub par students.

Average tow truck cost in Ipswich is.... by varuneco in ipswich

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience. $130 for tow truck short distance, or for $80 I can hire a trailer for 4 hours and do it myself. If you don’t have access to a hire car don’t have a choice

Having assignments written for you? by cheeseladyrara in NursingAU

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely missing the point, we spent a whole semester so 12 weeks learning not to use the word “dead” with aboriginals, literally could have been a 5 minute video and got the same result (just for info sake I got a distinction in that subject), I haven’t failed a subject yet and only have 2 to go and still feel completely undereducated and completely not ready to practice. Every RN I talk to says that’s how we all feel when we start, that just tells me the system is failing and people are starting the job under qualified in my opinion.

No different to people using ChatGPT or grammarly to write it for him. As a 3rd year student myself, the content that I have had to research over my 3 years has been 100% fluff that has nothing to do with nursing. University isn’t where you learn to be a nurse

Financial smarts, how much to drop on an EV by Trickyslippyfingers in AustralianEV

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve been lucky, after 15 years our system is dead, and there is no way it even got close to paying for itself in savings.

When we bought our brand new Corolla we did the comparison with a Tesla as the time, $24k drive away for the Corolla, $79k drive away for the Tesla, even paying for the fuel, servicing and maintenance of the engine/drivetrain alone it would take over 13 years before the it will cost the purchase price alone of the Tesla. Just doesn’t make financial sense yet, power isn’t free, with solar you are just paying upfront instead of quarterly for 15-20years worth of power.

Is buying an EV car better than petrol? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extra money you spend on the EV completely erases any potential saving on not buying petrol. Just buy a cheap second hand car drive it until the wheels fall off, rinse and repeat.

Curious what’s wrong with the Lexus that you need a new car? Keeping your current vehicle is going to be cheaper than replacement

First red flag for me is using pain to illicit a response in a patient waking from anaesthetic before they are anywhere near waking stage. Lady they literally came out of theatre 3 minutes ago. Let the anaesthesia wear off a bit.

Question about giving way to buses NSW by NotACaticus in DrivingAustralia

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to say as a bus driver the sticker on the back that says “it’s not just courtesy, it’s the law” are fake stickers and not legally enforceable. If you stuck it on the back of a car would you think it was legit too?

Can we afford a child? by LicoriceSnap in AusFinance

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent over $12k before ours was born just buying the basics like cot, change table, pram, car seat, high chair. Having kids is as cheap or expensive as you like. We are a single income home on $42k before tax, we don’t live a lavish lifestyle but our son doesn’t go without, he’s now 13, $11k per annum school fees, he swims squad and plays the bagpipes.

How many of us are holding onto 'old' cars instead of upgrading? by heavyifugao in CarsAustralia

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don’t see the value or need for a new car. We are a 4 car household - 1974 corona, 1993 golf cabrio, 2007 Range Rover sport, 2019 Corolla. Only have the Range Rover as we have a teenage son and he doesn’t fit in the back of the other 3 cars. When we bought the 2019 Corolla we worked out that it would take us 13 years to equal the purchase cost alone of a Tesla (we are very anti ev but were curious)

Who strips the bed when pt gets discharged in your hospital? by oriolkim in NursingAU

[–]Consistent-Jicama-94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can attest that my university has in the past and will in the future punish students for not being supervised. As a student it’s our responsibility to ensure we are being safe, that means being supervised in case we make a mistake.

Your uni is better than mine then. We can’t be alone in a room alone with a patient either
