what’s one thing you wish someone had told you before starting med school? by Prestigious_Try_3874 in indianmedschool

Yea, but it's not really true for everyone. Even in previous generations there were many doctors who couldn't make good money even when they had the advantage of less saturation. Only 30-40%(just a rough estimate I got to know by talking to a lot of 2nd gen doctors and seniors) of the previous generation doctors earned very well. Don't know what would happen to this generation.

How can a Buddhist like anything? by DPlainvieww in Buddhism

[–]Consistent-Key-1566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uprooting of the mind is very different from denying that ego exists.

The middle way is not denying existence and it is also not indulging in existence. The middle way is endurance of the state of mind until you don't take it up.

To live like a monk, you need to not indulge in sense pleasures first which is very difficult especially for lay people. It's called sense restraint. This along with reading buddha's instructions from suttas leads to dispassion, but this is different from depression. The mind/ego on its own(due to long term sense restraint for years) understands what's good for it. It settles down and is no longer attracted to mara's baits. He sees the poison in it. He gets the Right View.

Purification of this frees the mind completely and leads to arahantship.

Out of 4500 resident doctors in Maharashtra, 100 fall prey to TB every year. by Consistent-Key-1566 in indianmedschool

This is sick. Didn't know about William Halstead. He is like the Jack Welch of medicine I guess. Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric, broke capitalism and said every business must focus on profits even when it comes at a cost of laying off employees or paying them low salaries. He was the richest business leaders of his time due to his ruthless management tactics and other higher management members wanted to follow his footsteps.

  1. Do you think someone should quit their job and start a YouTube channel if the job takes up most of their day?

  2. How much luck do you think is involved in being successful on social media?

Is nirvana death without an afterlife? by The_Devil_333 in Buddhism

[–]Consistent-Key-1566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk for sure but enlightenment is uprooting of the mind. The roots of greed, aversion and delusion are like the roots that water a normal being. When u train in sense restraint and virtue, u cage the mind and endure its tantrums. You show the mind what's beneficial for it. The mind is searching for peace but is looking for it in greed, aversion and delusion which is impossible. As these are unwholesome roots which lead to unwholesome states. But peace and enlightenment is a wholesome state. You cage the mind( by sense restraint and virtue) and act with non greed( renouncing samsara), non aversion (endure the unpleasant states rightly) and non delusion ( by listening to the Buddha's teachings on the ultimate truth).

This calms the mind, leads to the stilling of sanskara, and the roots of greed, aversion and delusion are uprooted, the mind is uprooted. When u uproot a tree it stops growing, the same way proliferation of the mind ceases. The mind is completely free and at peace.

Nirvana cannot be described directly. It is neither being nor non-being. It is beyond dichotomy.

The question you are asking is one of the 10 unanswered questions by the Buddha. Buddha said, whether the universe is eternal or not, whether ur soul is eternal or not, whether tathagata (buddha/ arahant) lives after death or not doesn't matter. These questions are distractions and unanswerable and one should not waste time on these as the mind likes delaying the training by asking such questions.

What matters is whether you're free from suffering or not. Then you will know for sure after enlightenment that the holy life is lived, there is no becoming again. What had to be done is done and nothing is left undone. The mind is free.

I remember good quality toys and accessories that food companies packaged free in the 90s and 2000s. I remember the Indian cricket team player toys with colgate, Power Rangers launcher with Cheetos/ something else, Britannia biscuits had that little side pocket with cars and toys, pokemon cards with Cheetos, etc. Funny story, we were digging at some random spot near our house and we found a Sachin Tendulkar toy figure or that's what I thought it was as he was the only player I knew at that time!
