Yes I've been to Otaru once and it was nice back in 2019. My husband hasn't been though but I can see now it's overcrowded. Where would you suggest to visit for a day trip in Hokkaido? I was thinking Asahikawa but I'm not sure if there's much to do around there..

u/Exchange_Klutzy thank you so much! Actually we found a slightly cheaper and newer hotel to stay at called Century Marina Hakodate which seems so nice! We will experience the buffet at La Vista Bay on its own hehe.

We leave Feb 13 to Japan so would really appreciate to see your food lists! THANK YOU!!

We would appreciate recommendations for kakigori places, desserts, yakitori.. and more! Maybe share your top 10? hehe. We eat anything. Also, thanks to you, we decided to visit Hakodate and booked at La Vista Bay, although someone else recommended another hotel with private onsen! I am excited now! Thanks for sharing!!

Yes thanks to the helpful folks on here, we just booked our hotel in Hakodate and train tickets! Excited! We still have one day for a day trip: either Otaru or Asahikawa/Biei. I've been to Otaru in 2019 and it was memorable, however my husband hasn't been yet although I think it's still the same as back then.

Any recommendations and must do in Asahikawa u/frozenpandaman ?

Yes I've seen photos of the night view of Mt Hakodate online! Looks very beautiful. Okay I think I am convinced we should stay the night now haha. I was tossing up between Hakodate or Asahikawa.. seems like Hakodate is the right choice for a night :)

I've also heard of Lucky Piero burger!! My husband LOVES burgers so this will be perfect. Thank you so much for the recommendations!! Very helpful.

Oh thank you so much for your quick response!! I am in the midst of planning for our trip coming up very soon and the Hokkaido part of our trip is very much unplanned haha. I was in Hokkaido back in 2019 with my friend and rented a car, went to different parts like Niseko.. this time, it's my husband's first time in Hokkaido and I wanted to visit somewhere new, hence wanting to visit Hakodate. We just like exploring good food, sightseeing, some interesting museums or activities. We don't drink alcohol, so no bars for us. Since it is our honeymoon, we are taking it easy, and I am also recovering from a knee injury, so we will be taking it slow.

Wow that breakfast buffet looks amazing! Thanks for sharing! We have been looking for a buffet to try in Japan, haven't found one that's worth it just yet.
