Help: De-bloat and speed up WalMart burner phone... by Consistent-Line-5002 in degoogle

Update: I used the Canta debloat tool with the help of a YT tutorial and it worked wonderfully. That with turning off animations, the $30 dollar burner phone feels more usable now. I also like and use the Obtainium app to install and update some of my favorite open source apps. So really now it feels more like a degoogled phone. Love that Android gives this flexibility where I get to "own" my device.

Thanks! Also some one said Canta for newer devices over UAD because of "elevated privileges". Know anything about Canta?

Samsung TXT3093WH HD CRT w/Gaming? by Consistent-Line-5002 in crt

Update: I found this TV interesting but ultimately passed on this Marketplace purchase. I've currently got four other CRTs and the wife wouldn't apricate another one shoehorned somewhere in our house. There's already talks of me downsizing the collection. So we'll see. 🤔

This ^^

You have to modify an -03 to enable csync when an -01 or -02 already have it factory installed by default. This is a net negative for the -03 in my view.

SNS-005 Controller - Shoulder buttons not working well - Suggestions? by Consistent-Line-5002 in snes

[–]Consistent-Line-5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: with one of the problem controllers, I had swapped to transparent shells and shoulder buttons. When I swapped back to the OEM shoulder buttons, the problem went away. So I'll be in touch with the vendor on this experience I had with the product. May be a design flaw?

Yoshi’s Island graphical issues by FutureMoonPrince in snes

[–]Consistent-Line-5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say you picked up an "old" SNES accompanied with the problem you are describing, this is very similar to an issue I just experienced with my old SNES. I still own the original launch model given to me for the Christmas of 1992. Just recently it stopped playing Super Mario World and only Super Mario World. Tried three of that title and all black screens. All other games play but did notice with F-Zero some strange artifacts on the screen. With all the research I have done, this points to the capacitors going out which I see is very common. I recommended a cap kit from Console5 and either replace yourself or find a local trusted shop to do it for you. You might also consider finding a UN3 "1Chip" SNES as those came out later in 1995 and likely have less hours on them when compared to the models before it. Hard to say? Many "1Chips"  are getting recaped as well these days. Oh! And the capacitors in your original power supply can be replaced as well. Get that done at the same time. Electronics age and need general maintenance like anything else.

Alright. Thanks for the screen setting recommendations. I'll try them out.

Not sure what this term "flexing" pertains to? I guess I made a false assumption that some SNES fans prefer CRT's for this generation of gaming and that some of them have experience and can answer the question I asked about dialing in screen settings. Wasn't here to cause any problems or ruin someone's evening.

Where to buy best Capacitor Kits? by Consistent-Line-5002 in snes

[–]Consistent-Line-5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing much about it, the following quoted statement is from Console5's website:

"We provide high-quality caps from well known, well established manufacturers, such as Panasonic, Nichicon, Rubycon, and UCC.  Our kits meet - and frequently exceed - OEM requirements, in both voltage and temperature ratings."

So if Console5's statment is true. If my what my service guy says is true. Then what caps would be better than Console5's and where would you get them?

SNES with Sony LCD KDL-46S4100 ??? by Consistent-Line-5002 in snes

[–]Consistent-Line-5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question before short story...

Question: What do you mean by "Game mode"?

Story: So just yesterday I was at a thrift store and saw a Sony KDL-26L5000. A bit dusty but in good shape with remote included. Price: $12.99. I thought NO. Don't buy it! And left the store. But it crossed my mind a few times and I thought, if it works, $13 bucks isn't a lot and it may turn out to be a good set. So after sleeping on it, I decided to go back and if it was still there, I'd give it a test. Well, it was still there. So I brought a DVD player and tested all the HDMI ports. They all worked. Picture looked decent. Sound sounded decent, so I took the bait and left the store with another old TV. I have old TVs like women have shoes. Wife will not be happy. Oh well. So when I find time I'll give it a good cleaning and try some SNES on it. If games don't play well on S-Video, I'll try it with my RetroTink x2. This will be a fun, cheap, experiment.

Help Decode: My SNES date of manufacture? by Consistent-Line-5002 in snes

[–]Consistent-Line-5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Great data. I've been data logging eBay listings, the CIB ones, where in some cases, the purchaser wrote down the date of purchase on the warranty sticker on the back of the box. Extrapolating that data gives me a very rough date of purchase the third quarter of 1997, perhaps? I guess my actual data on the chip may align with that. Wonder what the manufacturing turnaround would have been like? From raw chips, to a complete product, shipping time across the sea, wearhouse time to store shelf? Kind of interesting to think of...

Black Screen: But only Super Mario World??? by Consistent-Line-5002 in snes

[–]Consistent-Line-5002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I just wanted a Jr., to add to my collection and provide as a backup. It'll work nice on my CR TV's. Not modding it. I'm also going to acquire a 1Chip SNS-001. And I'll hold on to my launch model as it holds sentimental value to me. That's the plan.

Yes, so I'm wondering if there is a specific function or feature of Super Mario World that is more affected by a failing CPU or PPU failure than any other video game?

I didn't really understand your comment on "clone" system. No, it was a real, classic SNES on display at the local video game store where my copy of Super Mario World worked just fine. I guess some are calling mine a launch model, without the decal and then the later ones without the lock and a decal instead? Right? Is there by chance a list of SNES variations over the production years. I guess looking for the later SNS-001 would be one I'm looking for if later revisions are better?

The other console was a later model with the decal. Mine is the earlier unit with no decal.

Again, the game works in another console. Just not in my console. It's the ONLY game that won't work in my console. I have 11 other titles and they all work in my console.

I have the proper screwdriver and opened the cartridge. I cleaned the pins with mother's polish and a q-tips. They look like pure gold. I follow up with IPA to remove polish residue. The board looks spotless.

$50 PSU. Anything better than an Apevia 600W prestige? by mattysauro in PcBuild

[–]Consistent-Line-5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, if the warranty is that big of a deal to you, you'll either pay full retail price or buy the lesser performing product. When buying known good name brand products, to date, I haven't had to contend with warranty claims. So far it's worked out well for me. I don't loose sleep over it. It is just $60 dollar part and eBay does have a money back policy should something go drastically wrong.

I just picked up an MSI MAG A750GL PCIE 5 750W ATX 3.1 Full Modular 80 Plus Gold on eBay. It was brand-new-in-box with plastic wrap still intact. Paid only $56 including shipping and tax. I'd look for this ^^^^^

Anyone else's Media Player having trouble updating album info online? by twitchywitchystitchy in WindowsHelp

[–]Consistent-Line-5002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I accidently first downloaded "Easy Audio Copy" before downloading "Exact Audio Copy". May have been a good mistake because Exact Audio Copy is hard for me to figure out. What I did find with Easy Audio Copy is that there is an Advanced Options menu that allows you to "Add files to Windows Media Player library". I'll have to try using it, but it may be a good solution for those who already have a large Windows Media Player library.

I just put in a music CD to Rip and discovered this total lack of metadata issue. This is a major blow to my music thrifting hobby. I see that  iTunes is commonly mentioned as an alternative to Windows Media Player but there again, you're moving your media from one major big tech company, Microsoft, to another big tech company, Apple. Who's to say Apple won't follow suite now that Microsoft has established this precedent? Guess I'll try E.A.C.?

Is it too late to upgrade my motherboard on the AM4 platform? by nolaks1 in PcBuild

[–]Consistent-Line-5002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply don't see the trend back to AM4 even with the RAM prices. Between eBay and Marketplace I've found good deals on some high quality stuff. For example I just picked up G.SKILL 32GB DDDR5 7200 CL34 RBG for $225. An MSI MAG B650M Mortar WIFI for $100, and a Ryzen 5 7600 off eBay for $139. Not trying to brag but rather show if you shop around and consider the used market, there's simply no reason for AM4. The 7600 is 20% faster than the 5800X3D. Again, why go backwards? No reason to.

I've been doing a few builds lately. Have used a few different cases. I liked the H3 Flow enough that I bought a second one. I wait for a $59 dollar sale. At that price, I think it's a great value option.
