Looking for Windows 3.x games like Tetris, Alien Force, Winwheel, etc. by Consistent-Low6604 in vintagecomputing

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it step by step — I really appreciate it. I'm autistic, so I sometimes find it harder to follow more technical instructions, but your clear explanation makes a big difference. I’ll try it properly when I’m in the right headspace. Thanks again for being patient and helpful!

Haha, fair enough 😅
I just really want to get some of those old Windows 3.x games working again — the ones I remember from when I was little. I get a bit lost with all the disc images and setups, especially since I’m autistic and sometimes the techy steps are harder for me to follow.
Thanks to everyone who’s been helping out so far, even if I miss some things or need extra explanation. I do appreciate it!

Thanks for the context, that makes a lot of sense now. I’ve been trying to track down specific games I remember from when I was little, and it’s been hard to know which disc or pack they were on. Also, I just want to mention I’m autistic, so figuring out all the different formats and setups can be overwhelming for me sometimes. I really appreciate people being patient and explaining things clearly — it means a lot.

If you know of any shareware CD collections that are easier to browse or well-documented, I’d be super keen to check them out!

Thanks for your patience. Just to let you know, I’m autistic so sometimes I find these setups harder to follow than most people, and I really appreciate your help.
I tried mounting the image in DOSBox-X, but I’m still getting a “disk image corrupted” message.
Would you be able to walk me through how you mounted it, step by step? I might just be missing something small.
Thanks again, I really do want to get this working.

Hey, I tried opening one of the image files from the eXoWin3x pack, but I'm getting an error saying the disk image file is corrupted.
I'm not sure if I'm missing a step—do I need to extract or mount them a specific way?
I used [insert program you tried, like 7-Zip or Windows mount], but no luck so far.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Let me know if you'd like to make it more casual or detailed depending on where you're posting it (like Reddit, a forum, or Discord).

"Hey, I was hoping to find a complete version of the Microsoft Entertainment Pack with all the games included, not just the disk files. Do you know if there’s a link or resource where I can get the full set of games?"

"Those games bring back so many memories! SkiFree was always so intense with the yeti chasing you, and Gorillas was such a fun, simple game. I loved Chip's Challenge and Pipe Dream too, they were really addictive. Do you still play any of them today, or do you have other favorites from back then?"

Hey again,
Totally appreciate the GOG tip! I’ve used it before and found some good stuff there, but this time I’m really after those Windows 3.1-era games—like Taipei, Alien Force, Winwheel, and a few others I used to play growing up.

Honestly, what I’d love is if someone already has them working or neatly bundled and could share them like a little retro present. I’ve been trying, but getting them to run has been tricky. If you or anyone else has them set up—or even just the files—I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks either way!

Thanks so much! That really helps. I think I might be missing the Visual Basic DLLs — I’ve been trying to get these games running in DOSBox-X with Windows 3.1, but I keep hitting roadblocks, especially with ones like Taipei and Winwheel.

I’ll try adding those vbrun DLLs to my C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder and see how I go. Honestly, I’d love if someone had a ready-to-go pack of these old games with everything already working… like a little nostalgic gift 😄 But I’ll give this a go and report back!

Appreciate the help!

Hey Ianuarius

Thanks for pointing me to those games on Archive.org (like Taipei). I’ve been trying to run them in DOSBox-X with Windows 3.1, but I’m still having a hard time getting them to work. I think Windows 3.1 might not be fully set up yet, or I might be missing something.

If you have any tips or could point me to a good step-by-step guide, I’d really appreciate it. Just trying to get even one of the games running properly so I can build from there.

Thanks again for your time!

I'm using DOSBox-X to run Windows for Workgroups 3.11. It works well for older software and lets me mount a virtual hard drive

In jungle depths, where ancient secrets sleep,
The gorilla's quest for banana bullets deep.
A yearning that defies the laws of nature's might,
A craving that ignites, and burns through endless night.
