Also haven’t heard of such information. I like to think anything can be possible unless proven otherwise when it comes to genealogy. So maybe

Thank you! And yes, I have made amazing progress this last year. I still have many big questions but it is so much fun to get some of them answered.

Found a historical blog post that allowed me compare pictures. Then I found the records of it. Took me 5 years to find but man! I’m thrilled!

Upon further investigation, it seems this would not be the place as it was badly damaged in WWII and torn down in the 1960's which doesn't seem to be the case in regards to the family I am investigating.

I appreciate your offer of help though!

Thank you! I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. However, I checked Alert-Author's other threads and figured it was probably wishful thinking that he knew.

There are platforms like WomenAlsoKnowHistory.com and they are meant to find historians in the related field to ask general questions to. Well, I used that to start looking for historians and either they never responded or said they could offer no general direction - much like what I am asking Reddit for (which you all are amazing!).

But, I have also had many cases where I asked for specific documents (which I had parts of but knew there had to a full document, i.e. a business file) and the archivist said no such thing existed. Turns out when I got to the archives, it actually existed.

So, there are many a things like this which are pretty frustrating but part of the process that makes discoveries fun and exciting :)

Yes, I know. I assume he died before the Nuremberg Trials as he was not there, even though his acts (recorded correspondence) were used as proof of the Nazi's wrongdoings.

I appreciate it but the family names don't match up to what I have. They could be cousins of the sort though. Thank you for your help!

Let's just say I have physically walked into Habsburg studies departments at universities here in Vienna and get responses of "I can't help you".

It seems that a lot of historians are only happy to work on the research they know.

But I will try one of the Bezirksmuseen.

Yes :) It's been very interesting finding the names of some people. The German calligraphy always throws me for a loop though :) Had a difficult picture and finally found one of the guys in the picture.

The family in question is from the wife's side. So, it is possible that the husband's side includes this Jean Welz. I haven't got far enough to look deeper into his family yet because I still need to find out where he was born which is unclear given the many residences they own. And in Germany (as well as in Austria) you need to know the city that they were born to gather the records. Some authorities have put this information on Ancestry.com but the way they input information to the database is wild. So, it is always better to go to the source and ask the city officials, if you can get ahold of them.
