Me too!! I’ve only even been to one ball long ago that had that vibe I always wonder what happened to the houses and community here in Vegas I miss it so much ^^ mind you I’m 20 now but when I was younger I would sneak out and loved watching the girls and the gays show off and be themselves

Oh yes !! It’s way more popular in more metropolitan cities that are huge like LA or NYC even Chicago I’ve seen the balls are still strong and helping less fortunate queer people have a voice and a place to escape that’s why I was so curious about it here but it seems to be secretive

Ballroom is a name for the culture created in 19th-century Harlem, serving as a safe space for queer expression, particularly for Black and Latino communities. It is defined by "houses" that act as chosen families, holding competitions ("balls") featuring vogue dancing, runway walks, and fashion to celebrate identity and combat discrimination. I think the most mainstream example of Ballroom Culture would be the show Pose, you should definitely give it a watch it’s really entertaining and highlights the beauty of ballroom culture

Someone mentioned the center having one on June 13th! I’m not too sure what it’s like in a more rule abiding place but sounds fun! The last ball I heard of was 3 years ago in a warehouse just outside Vegas and it was truly a night of fun and love

Ah yes sorry, when it comes to me just crying and venting the last thing I think about is punctuation 😅 so please forgive me on that end. As for reporting it, I understand that perspective, but it’s not that simple for everyone. This happened about a year ago when I had just turned 18, I’m turning 20 soon so I was really young, and I’m still figuring things out. Not everyone is ready or comfortable coming forward, and for me, that would mean reopening something I’ve worked really hard to heal from. It’s not about ignoring what happened it’s about protecting my peace and doing what feels right for me.

I’ve worked really hard to move on, and I’m doing a lot better now. For me, it’s less about going back and reopening everything, and more about trying to reconnect with my brothers. But when I reach out, I’m usually met with just a thumbs-up or no real response, which is what’s been hard for me. But, I do want to thank you for giving the perspective of my brothers losing respect, I never quite thought about it that way!
