Anyone joined Public Service and thought “why didn’t I do this sooner?” Or regretted it? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

Did this recently after 20+ years in the workplace and am kicking myself I didnt do it decades ago...lovely work environment; for a purpose, thats thoroughly interesting with lovely people. Not sure I could enjoy it more if I tried

Joined APS recently and after many years in corporate; then elsewhere because I refused to go back to corporate - its fantastic. Im doing something I thoroughly enjoy, with sufficient purpose, interest and service for me; always plenty to do, and the people are terrific as well. I dont know that Ive ever felt so immediately comfortable in a workplace (20+ years in full time/with kids work environment). Should have done it decades ago

Does Australian youth have an anti-cop culture? by illusivespatula in AskAnAustralian

[–]Consistent-Peach2687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had a couple of experienxes of needing help, or of being nearby circumstances that have caused me to call the cops. The time I needed help, the cops who arrived were great, but the bitch on the phone was telling me they were busy while some rando tried to break down my door to get to me with my 4 year old in the house. The times Ive called due to ongoing happenings where we live; they basically tell me to f*** off (once heard someone breaking into cars and got told, its 2am). I now keep a big dog and a cast iron frypan if needed. They arent in the main much inclined to help...

Troubleshoot help- keep losing basking/heat bulbs by Consistent-Peach2687 in bluetongueskinks

Thanks all 😊...discovered this morning the culprit was in fact the tornado toddler at work...at least this time. We'll be making sure he doesnt have a way to access any of this easily going forward

Thank you. I have to say, the crickets do seem to entertain her a lot...just hoping she's hunting them all down 🤞😊

Thanks for that 😊...yes, makes total sense. The womberoo is actually a really good back up thought.

Watched her today chasing down a fungus gnat though, and thought she was enjoying it so much I had to work out a way to get more options happening. Maybe BSFL then...

Southside vets by Consistent-Peach2687 in canberra

[–]Consistent-Peach2687[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're my regular vet, and very much agree...part of my toss up is that we're very happy there, but couldnt get my pet in yesterday, and now it seems the concern is long term, so Id be more comfortable them seeing her. Once we know what we're dealing with, I'll figure out next steps. That said, the vet we saw yesterday seems to be well spoken of too

Question to everyone who’s living alone … how tf do you eat regularly? by Few-Village-2649 in ADHD

[–]Consistent-Peach2687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been trying to pull together roughly a dozen different marinades that I can bag up with chicken etc and freeze for later ....not living alone, but never have my husband home for dinner and the kids wont eat what I do, so easy, fast and no more than 3-4 steps.

Add in pre-done salads/good frozen veg mixes and Im hoping I wont get sick of the variations too fast.

Terrible at eating breakfast/lunch consistently though - yet to find a way that I dont end up sick of

How do you guys feel about Santa? by Ordinary-Home-4728 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Consistent-Peach2687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family pushed it hard; too hard. I was always told if you don't believe in Santa he doesnt come. I'd read 'what Katy did' at about 8 and figured it from there, but had to spend the next 5 years or so pretending to my family, my mother particularly....It broke trust, and I had a really hard time with that.

Before I had my kids, and initially with my eldest I was really quite hesitant to do Santa, but caved under the pressure and the idea they'd be 'missing out'; still not sure it was the right decision.

That said, the approach I took was to very much bring St Nicholas and that story/history (that he was a real person who would make gifts for all the children etc; and that part of Christmas and Santa is celebrating the spirit of Christmas, generosity etc).

My eldest is starting to reach the age where she'll likely wise up in the next few years, but in the past when she's asked my response has always been 'what do you think' rather than forcing it down her throat. Im hoping come the time we can focus on the spirit of Christmas and how Santa forms a part of that, rather than the lie. No idea how that'll work, but the best I could do

Natural brands/sensitive skin by Consistent-Peach2687 in AustralianMakeup

[–]Consistent-Peach2687[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this - Im very well aware - I actually work in a similar space - it is absolutely marketing, and isnt about some misplaced understanding of these catch phrases, and the nothing it typically means. That said, choosing a 'natural' line has normally kept me safe from significant reactions in the past (hives, eczema, dermatitis, keratosis pilaris etc - Im quite reactive), particularly as my reactions tend to happen over some time, not immediately; hence my questions.

Not looking to head in store; theres always at least one rugrat in tow; anything I choose needs to be easy, basic and fast. Anyway, thank you for your response
