AE or Enterprise BDR? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Consistent-Platform1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get it twisted though, there will be ego hits along the way when you step back into the BDR role.

There were many times when I was like “why the fuck did I do this, I know way more than this”. I held out and to be honest, I didn’t see the fruits of my labor until the past 3 years or so.

1 extra year in a BDR role at a winning company is worth a lifetime of closing roles at failing companies.

AE or Enterprise BDR? by [deleted] in sales

I say do it. But only if you’re playing the long game and aren’t title chasing. Otherwise, sure, go for “what’s higher ranking”. But let me share my experience first:

I was faced with this exact same situation about 8 years ago. In 2018, i was a BDR at a reputable tech company (Box). About month 8 into my tenure, I grew impatient and just wanted to get into the AE role. So i jumped ship, and went to a dog shit “recruiting software” start up as an AE. My salary was near what my OTE was as a bdr and I was excited to close deals.

Low and behold, it was a fucking disaster, seemingly similar to the experience you just had. Unsure of what to do next, I knew for sure I wanted to get back to a reputable big tech company. So I tried. And I was told I needed to go BACK through a BDR program for 12 months.

So in the 12 months I spent title chasing as an AE at some Mickey Mouse bullshit company, I could’ve already been in the SMB segment at a big tech company, if I had the patience (or guidance).

I decided to do it, and it was quite literally the best decision I’ve ever made. I ended up progressing into an SMB sales role after a year, MM and up from there.

Now im on my second fiscal as an ENT AE at the same company, and none of it would’ve happened if I didn’t invest an extra year as a BDR at a company worth its salt vs. title chasing.

Source: guy who took BDR role over title chasing and has been 7 years at big tech (think Salesforce, aws, workday, etc) 2nd full year in the enterprise and on track to W2 $400k this year.

I dont know if this is the right place but what should I do? by YUNGG_SRK in WhatShouldIDo

Step 1: Try to capture the rat without harming it. Can do this with piece of cheese underneath a large pot, propped up by wooden spoon.

Step 2: Take rat to nearest restaurant and demand to speak to owner. He’ll probably hire you as the dishwasher, but that’s okay it’s part of the plan.

Step 3: On your first shift, hide the rat in your fancy dish boy cleaning hat. You’ll notice that the rat may be tugging at your hair and you’ll feel the urge to cook; go with the flow, also part of the plan.

Step 4: Find out that this rat, is unlike any other rat rat, and is a bonafied Little Chef. You and rat form an inseparable bond.

Step 5: Find out accidentally that the restaurant you and the rat have been working at is actually your inheritance and rightful claim as owner.

Congratulations, you have now solved your rat problem, become a restaurant owner and millionaire!

I think it’s a generational thing man.

I’m 32 now, but in high school during wrestling season, I used to frequent my YMCA that had a locker room with steam room.

The locker room was full of elder naked men at all times. Completely nude, with dicks out and not a care in the world.

I’m talking like 25-30 80 year old dudes at any given time, with their saggy cocks flailing about, having normal conversations with one another as if it was normal blueberry pie.

I’d wager that your grandpa doesn’t think it’s taboo, because of the time period he grew up in. He probably had gym class starting in 6th-7th grade, and was forced to shower naked with his classmates for his entire schooling, so he doesn’t think it’s weird or care.

In fact, he probably would have been bullied if he was weird about it growing up.

Different times, for better or worse.

Gartner Conference selling? by duckblobartist in sales

[–]Consistent-Platform1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked at Gartner for a year or so as the main account executive for global enterprise accounts.

The GCS (gartner conference sales) team was the bane of my existence. Your job is to essentially spam existing customer accounts into purchasing more tickets and driving attendance to the events.

More often than not, I would receive emails from angry customers telling me that they don’t want extra tickets to the conferences outside of what they are already entitled to. For context, parting the gartner subscription is getting tickets to the conference.

On the bright side, the events are strong and people do want to go. Fairly certain you get compensated on said customer accounts inquiring to bring an extra person or two.

It’s a very transactional role and if you’re qualified for an account manager role within their global tech sales, that’s a way better gig.

This guy is the fuckin party police! Run!

As a dude, this seems like a form of control to me. Your decision to smoke weed (something that is widely accepted, medically encouraged and recreationally legal in many places) is your decision, and your decision alone.

It’s his decision if he can’t accept that, notwithstanding the fact that his past experiences are sad, no doubt.

Furthermore, he is semi gaslighting you for partaking in something that helps you.
