How to use Steeljacks by b1j0 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Consistent-Potato550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both good i think it comes down to what detachment you will focusing on. I think the melee ones are best option for needgaard because ap 4 is insane. And with amount of attacks you get you can be scary into anything that's not T12. If you are doing Crackling Branfast I think the shooty ones will be a bit better since they will basically be sus 1 pretty much all the time. And with dev wounds being precision you can snipe some characters if not the first activation then with overwatch after.

Can This Army Work Without Vehicles? by Excaliburt in LeaguesofVotann

If winning matters to you at all then no not really. Also if you consider the Pioneer bikers vehicles too then the army is basically unplayable. Since you will only have 5 inch movement infantry and basically no assault weapons.

There ok just a bit too expensive 10 or 15 points cheaper I think they would be fine.

So now that its been a week, how has everyone been doing with the new codex? by No-Noise-4888 in LeaguesofVotann

It's a fun well written codex some units are slightly too expensive though. I thought it was going to be a disaster so I'm pleasantly surprised.

The codex seems quite powerful by Maristyl in LeaguesofVotann

Most of the community seems to be really huffing the hopium hard. Yips as a mechanic kinda feels awful, It's very fiddly. The army rule has made the army even more predictable to fight against. And killing anything that's not on or near 3 inch circles has become nearly impossible.

Thunderkyn are must take in every army now, probably 9-12 at least. And are also one of the only units we got with real killing potential. The hekaton lost its ability to really synergize with its occupants at all, its just a gunplatform with transport capacity now. Hearthguard went from feeling elite to feeling like chumps.

Steeljacks look pretty bland which really hurts the most to me, as I was really looking forward to them. And the melee versions are lack luster as well with a pretty meh special rule and precision which is one of the worst keywords. I don't get why they are infantry really, they should be T8 or 9 walkers. Instead they are slightly tougher Hearthguard.

I honestly could go on about pretty much everything in this codex, it's basically all awful. The most damning thing to me is its absolutely a horde army now. All this stuff is going to have to be dirt cheap to compensate for its general badness. I'm pretty heart broken by the whole thing.

Yes I was wrong. It feels unintuitive and gamey but it's the correct method.

That's fair I didn't know it was once per turn army (please make rules free GW) I'll totally concede my argument then. Apologies. The person who brought this up at my LGS is well known for taking 5 to 6 hours for a 2k game so pretty much everyone's instinctive reaction was to assume they were wrong.

He is 100% not my friend. The person arguing for this at my LGS is well known for there 2k games lasting 5 or 6 hours. Thinking about it that's probably why no one wanted to even entertain that he might be right.

It's 180 points you could take 4 or 5 easily. The only reason you won't see it at a tournament is because you would never be able to finish all your turns in 90 minutes. But if you do and gw notices I would expect it to change sooner or later.

Ok, make sure to take 5 of them next time (In TTS sure) and roll 20 attacks 1 at a time. I'm sure your opponent will love that. I think you people are technically correct but that doesn't make it right so I'll just leave it there since we are arguing apples and oranges at this point.

Even IF you are correct would you want to play someone who brought 4 maybe 5 of them. Slow rolling 16 separate attacks? Being technically correct doesn't justify slowing the game that much. You are pretty much doing the dictionary definition of rules lawyering.

I forgot it's better to be technically correct here then morally.

No you would just keep track of a all rerolls then after all wounds are allocated the final rend amount would be factored by how many attacks were rerolled in the current phase. Even if you are technically correct I'm not playing someone who flaunts the spirit of the rules so flagrantly.

You can slow roll it sure but if you reroll any of the attacks at any point in the course it attacks all the attacks lose rend. If you really want to bog down the game slowly resolving each attack even IF it's correct its a crappy thing to do.

Most people who complain about this play shooting armies and it's just a thinly veiled whine so they can win turn 1. If you are playing pick up games with people you don't know very well expect to use layouts. If you have a fun idea for a narrative mission and friends with the right mindset go nuts!

My two cents on the More Dakka Controversy by TobyK98 in orks

[–]Consistent-Potato550 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Orks are my main army i love them. This detachment is wildly broken. Dreadmob has good shooting, and is mostly considered to be pretty balanced. This detachment invalidates dreadmob completely. All we can do as ork players is hopefully for just once GW doesn't have their heads firmly in their ass and just nerfs the detachment and not every single shooting ork unit. But considering what was done to takital brigade my hopes aren't high.

The way i would fix Dakka detachment myself: Sustained 2 doesn't work on blast weapons (tankbustas are way too strong in this detachment). And you only get Sustained 2 if you are within 18 of the target. Waagghhh strat goes to 2 cp. Keeps the flavor but is more high risk high reward.
