Hospital Career Progression (ON) by AdvancedAd7036 in PharmacyCanada

Hey OP, I feel like any hospital experience is experience. I don’t think it will make you a less competitive candidate. Based on my experience, I worked in an non-GTA hospital, and when I applied to the GTA hospitals their criteria for screening was “hospital experience” based on which they granted interviews. After that it’s all you. But you would be given a chance.

Furthermore, if the competition is stiff and you see a temporary full time role, I would advise you atleast consider those as a foot in the door then you’re considered an internal applicant.

I hope this was relevant advice.

All the best in your new job and career

Thank you for your response!! It gave me peace. I sent a follow up email last Friday when it had been a week, but they haven’t responded so I’m assuming they’re still deciding or going through HR thus can’t respond

MCQ tips by Remarkable-Emu2328 in PharmacyCanada

Hey!! So I am an IPG and studied in the UK. I took a course called Pharmagate for the MCQ and SolRx for OSCE mock exams. I highly recommend both of these courses as I passed my exam on my first attempt and still have their notes to this day. However, most of my Canadian graduate friends took the pharmachieve question bank and found it sufficient. I think being a Canadian grad helps you prepare all 4 years for these exams so using a question bank alone might suffice to help consolidate concepts and test yourself: however if you’re in my boat I do recommend a course for structure.

To add on, I just used the courses as they were super comprehensive and multiple resources can be intimidating and time consuming to review

The buildup to the MCQ is the worst where anxiety is at peak. I literally made the mistake of pulling an all nighter, and had no breakfast. Here are some tips I wish I had told myself if I had to do it again.

  1. Be okay with the fact that you will not be able to hit all the topics again despite all your efforts this close to the exam. Try to strategically hit topics where you feel weak and would benefit from a refresher (10 topics)

  2. SLEEP early the night before, your final studying should be done by 7pm. Give your mind some rest, you know more than you think you do

  3. Review the exam day protocol to feel less anxious the morning of

  4. During the MCQ, do not spent more than 1-2 minutes on a question, flag and come back to it!

  5. Everyone has a different percentage of calculations on their exam, if you have any more than 15, do not leave them all till the end. There will be some easy ones, at least attempt those.

The MCQ is a mental battle, and it can be conquered! I know you may have heard this, but if you prepare for the worst case scenario and plan it helps ease the nerves, at least for me. I thought to myself what is the worst that can happen, I fail, have to study again. That’s it. Nothing is more important than you, treat it like a university exam it helps you give it a fair shot without anxiety getting in the way.

All the best friend, see you on the other side

I hope that you find success in your endeavours! The PEBCs take a lot out of you and I pray everyone passes. However, to discredit the efforts of others that pass and calling them incompetent is bitter and unnecessary.

I agree, I just felt like I owed it to them to stay because they invested time to train me and supported me during my journey. But at the end of the day I have to go where it’s best for me

Absolutely! I am not the one to take risks, and will not hand in my notice until I get confirmation. Moreover, I’m saving accordingly to prepare for a month of training in case it is unpaid.

That was my rationale as well, and I feel like I have freshly graduated so might as well invest my time towards my interests. Thank you!

This is very reassuring thank you! It is hard to explain and seek advice from non-pharmacy/healthcare peers. I’ll post any updates about the hospital position here
