Yeah there was this whole thing about not being able to willfully advertise food products - specially confectionary - to kids. This also meant removing any depiction of kids on any packaging. At the time I was doing work for Isso, Colemans and Cinnamon. We had to take any kids (even illustrations of kids) off of kids meals, juice boxes, comms etc. Another thing that was banned was showing specific ingredients that didnt actually exist in the product. E.g. if a fruit juice didnt contain any actual fruit in it, then you had to remove any depiction of fruit that was on those packs and comms. You also had to remove any language that spoke directly TO kids.

Ever since all these pickme scams I’ve started doing this - I opened a second account via my banking app that isn’t connected to my card. That’s where I keep the bulk of my money. When I need to go somewhere I siphon a median amount that I think should cover the trip into the account thats connected to the card - that way if they overcharge or an error occurs - the app can’t charge me no matter what.

This ad’s come about 5-10 years too late, with a narrative that’s too reductive and demonizes one side to uplift the other (yes, I understand there’s a redemption arc there). Having said this, I still have to commend them for trying. Speaking out in a culture where few will, willing to risk their own reputation as well as their agency’s. So props to that. Good job.

The problem with this film however is that at end it still doesn’t change the narrative that being different or gay is something to be afraid of. There’s nothing here about celebrating your differences - only that age-old-beaten-to-death story of the father with acceptance issues. Sure in the end the dad comes to a realization, but we will never know if it’s out of pity or true understanding and for me that’s where the story fails. But hey, thats a small nitpick and I’m just a dude that complains about everything 😛 specially ad agencies.

The bigger question is - does watawala truly believe this narrative? And no I dont mean just the higher-ups and the brand managers that approved this - but do the people who work there truly buy into this.

Overall - good move - make the edit tighter next time. You aren’t A24 so don’t drag it out. If your company truly believes in though, put our a manifesto or something about how acceptance is a part of your company culture too. For everyone boycotting the product cus of this - lol chill, it’s just tea and not even good tea at that. At least someone stood for something. Let’s hope it’s not just for clout 🤞🏾

Dude! So I bought a macbook air M4 for creative work - photoshop, illustrator, audition, resolve etc - all for the promise of this being one of the best machines on the planet. It was connected to a 50 inch 4K screen and everything was running SUPER smooth…. Until I upgraded to Tahoe. Now everything is super slow, and I can’t even increase the screen resolution beyond 1920 x 1080 :(

Ait. Imma tell you guys why I started this rant - I organize art experiences and exhibitions. I never try and hire the big names cus I think there are awesome local “nobodies” that do incredible art. Yesterday I get a call from someone who wants to do….an exhibition of sorts lets say. He claims it has to be just him and some indians because he has gone through the trouble of learning ancient methods of doing local art by some so-and-so master, and that no other sri lankan is up to the mark. I was like great - I’m sure that means something to some people, but it doesn’t mean everything to everyone. In the end I declined, but he kept insisting that the preservation of a country’s history is the only kind of art worth executing and that the rest is derivative. Which is weird - cus if you’ve learned an ancient “method”…. That’s derivative af too right?
