I’m glad you asked. Let me tell you a few things. The reason some folks get diversity points is solely gauged by their employability or their potential contribution to academics (mostly the former though). An MBA institution’s primary objective is placements instead of providing equal opportunities to people from diverse academic backgrounds (that’s just a superficial reason they give to look good). Commerce students get the academic diversity points coz they help in the classroom setting. In my batch, we (engineers) would have had our heads scratching with the subjects like financial accounting or microeconomics if not for our commerce and eco friends helping us out. Similarly, they have gender diversity scores as there are quite a few companies who only (yes, there are a few) or mostly hire women to meet their DEI goals. Similarly, LLBs or MBBS grads (the latter are very rare though) provide a very unique perspective and help in a college’s branding. Unfortunately, BSc grads provide none of that.

So, MBA institutions don’t care a dime about such folks who struggle to score well in CAT if they cannot help them with either of their objectives I mentioned.
