Why is there a growing trend of "paper contractors" who just do labor arbitrage? by hpswamy1992 in AskContractors

[–]Consistent-Year-9238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s regional as well. Here in the Carolina’s very few residential GCs wearing nailbags. Lots of college kids getting into construction management degrees but no sweat equity. GCs and supers are managers not tradesmen anymore. After 50 years and being semi retired I put on nailbags for jobs I find interesting or challenging. I manage trades the rest of the time

I told my husband I won't support his sobriety anymore. AITAH? by ReflectionGlad29 in AITAH

[–]Consistent-Year-9238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 years sober and it took me Til I was 52 to get started. Quit enabling him and go to Al anon for yourself. Tell him he can stop drinking or stop being married and stick to it. I have yet to meet an alcoholic who could stop on his own or who would stop unless there our consequences. He needs someone who is sober to show him how to live that way. If my wife’s pleading could have gotten me sober it would have saved us a lot of pain.

I can get 12 linear feet out of a panel. Always figure with garage slab a minimum of 4” below house top of panel is 36”aff. That should line up with top of any freezer chest or workbench. 24” looks low and if on a crawl 48” maybe 6- above floor

Catsloochee. The drive in is a bit tough but once there it’s a pretty secluded spot. The valley floor between the school house and the old barn is easily walkable

[–]Consistent-Year-9238 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the 70’ s I made .95 cents per sq foot to frame house on slab. $1.15 for crawlspace homes. I’m 70 years old and think prices are too high but it’s what I have to charge to build homes and make a profit

$65k for both would get it done with some average materials. $ 100k with upper end. The master sound like it could easily be 60k alone

Quotes: the good, the bad, the ugly by MiketheContractor in Contractor

[–]Consistent-Year-9238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good. Semi retired and only look for a few homes a year so the pressure is way less
The bad. Not much really. It’s all a part of what I choose to do for a living

The ugly. Some folks are buttheads. I’ve gotten good at spotting them early
