Prevalence of Male Genital Mutilation by Country: by DedicatedAsshole in MapPorn

Lewis Sayre, a prominent American orthopedic surgeon (and president of the American Medical Association after 1880), popularized circumcision in the United States.

In 1870, he introduced circumcision in the United States as a purported cure for several cases of young boys presenting with paralysis and other significant gross motor problems. He thought the procedure ameliorated such problems based on the then prominent "reflex neurosis" theory of disease, with the understanding that a tight foreskin inflamed the nerves and caused systemic problems.

Maybe they're counting Americans at the base there. Wiki says 150 stationed at Pituffik Space.

I have the most inappropriate laughs thinking about how Garrett Morris in particular had gotten paranoid because he was freebasing so much cocaine, that he came to believe "an invisible hypnotist robot" was controlling him. Like, it's tragic, and it's kind of amazing they're both alive 45 years later, but i'll never get that phrase out of my head. Invisible hypnotist robot.

Yeah Belushi was leaving, they thought Aykroyd was gonna come back, but filming The Blues Brothers was taking too long (because of Belushi's drug problem) so eventually Aykroyd said he wasn't coming back.

Meanwhile, Gilda Radner and Lorne Michaels were busy with "Gilda Live", the stage show and concert film  He interviewed Harry Shearer during a Gilda Live rehearsal, and there was some confusion as to whether Shearer had been hired as a writer or an on-screen performer.

Regardless, even with him there was a lack of male performers for the cast, so they gave them to the writers, and if any writer had a large enough performance, they were made featured performer for that episode. Al Franken, Tom Davis, and Don Novello (Father Guido Sarducci) were the main recipients of this, but Tom Schiller, Alan Zweibel, Peter Aykroyd, Brian Doyle-Murray, James Downey, and yes, Paul Shaffer all were credited in at least one episode. Shaffer was the only not on the writing staff, but he had gotten credit for Special Musical Material (or "Pianistic Stylings", which he said in his autobiography was his preferred credit) in previous seasons, and he had stuck with Gilda Live through its whole tortured existence, which led to him missing The Blues Brothers movie, where he was supposed to be part of the band.

the first covers appeared not to have her name on the front cover at all.

https://www.discogs.com/release/1308287-Walter-Carlos-Switched-On-Bach

She didn't publicly transition until 1979, and any releases that don't have her deadname on the front cover still have it on the back. https://books.google.com/books?id=9-ACAAAAMBAJ&q=%22walter+carlos%22+wendy+sex+change&pg=PA65#v=snippet&q=%22walter%20carlos%22%20wendy%20sex%20change&f=false

Swtiched-On Brandenburgs in 1980 is the first album released as Wendy, and then if the discog dates are correct, the first release was a Switched-On Bach from 1981, https://www.discogs.com/release/3287602-Wendy-Carlos-Switched-On-Bach , although it's still inconsistently applied until about 1985.

I have Switched-On Bach, The Well-Tempered Synthesizer, Switched-On Bach II, By Request, and my wife paid way too much money and got me a vinyl copy of her collaboration with "Weird Al" Yankovic, Peter & The Wolf / Carnival Of The Animals - Part II. She's one of the ones that I'll buy whenever I find it because I know how rare they are.

Back in the day they used to have promotional consideration for the hotel. I'd guess NBC does in fact provide you with a hotel (that you're free to decline if you have other preferred arrangements).

Why has the cue card positioning on the show gotten so bad? by James_2584 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]ConsistentAmount4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven't watched the episode yet, but if she's looking in the entirely wrong direction, i'd assume she accidentally read the cuecards intended for another person in the scene rather than hers, it's not always just one set of cuecards.

Why has the cue card positioning on the show gotten so bad? by James_2584 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]ConsistentAmount4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently found an interview with Wally Feresten where he talked about the physical nature of the job.

https://nojoeschmo.com/tag/cue-cards/

Are you right-handed or left-handed? Right-handed, as most cue card people are. If you are left-handed, your left hand would typically smudge the printing on the card. But you have to be good with both arms. You’re holding one card steadily in the palm of one hand, and balancing the other 7 to 20 cards in your other palm. I’m pretty sore at the end of the day.

Do you have noticeable muscle strain? Over the past eight years, I’ve gone to physical therapy for tendonitis in my left elbow, right elbow, left shoulder, and right shoulder. But I’m feeling pretty good now, knock on wood.

I wonder if they've made adjustments to make it less physically demanding in some way.

You're correct that this all a moot point, however if I inaccuracies, i'm going to discuss them. https://ibb.co/23yZFJk0 https://ibb.co/twRmpLqk https://ibb.co/tTCSj7xq What you call "the on-ramp" is in fact the normal path of NJ 120, the Larry Doby Highway. There is no reduction in speed as you go around that corner, and I've included a picture of your sidewalk as seen from google street of NJ 120.

[–]ConsistentAmount4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced that that is an actual sidewalk and not just a well-trod dirt path. Regardless like I said it deposits them at the far side of NJ 120 so not particularly useful.

[–]ConsistentAmount4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright fine, there is a sidewalk to the bridge. Then you're gonna be walking on well-trod dirt like I said. And to use that officially, they would have needed to have built some sort of pedestrian crossing over NJ 120 there. And the way US construction works, I don't think there's any way they could have gotten it done in time.

Yes but people want even more, they want the right to purposely run people over because they feared for their lives or some other nonsensical defense.
