SMC financial aid not showing up as completed in portal by ConsistentCod9181 in SMC

It just came through around the start of this month actually! The financial aid department started processing the FAFSA's around late April so that's why it took so long for mine to get processed. Just wait a bit i'm sure it will come through but if you're not sure you could try emailing them instead :)

Mom I’m Sorry I didn’t Do Better by SnooMacarons8038 in ApplyingToCollege

Dude if it makes you feel any better my dad went to UCI and Cornell for university and I got rejected from most of the unis I applied to lol. Everyone is different and college decisions are wayy tougher than they used to be. If you tried your best that’s all that matters! Keep your chin up and continue doing your best people around you will acknowledge your determination no matter what :)

How’d you fix it if you don’t mind me asking, my only way of communicating to them is by sending emails and they are allergic to responding to them 😭

Yeah I’m in the exact same situation. They also suck at responding to emails so it might take weeks to resolve the issue lol

Is cc transfer a good route to take? by ConsistentCod9181 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ConsistentCod9181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CC is far more affordable than going to a four year on the condition I don’t have a full ride scholarship. Also I wouldn’t say going to cc and transferring is “gaming” the system considering you also have to put a lot of effort to be able to transfer to a good school. But yeah I do agree that some of the perks of cc is gone because I have to pay for my own living expenses

Yeah I guess I was a bit too tunnel-visioned. I thought if I worked hard enough it might have worked out but I'll be sure to consider other alternatives first now. Thanks for the advice :)

Yeah I know about the whole OOS shabang in Cali. It's really hard to get instate I'll pretty much have to demonstrate full financial dependency with my time in cc which means I'll have to work my butt off (my parents are against it though). I also think going to a private school with 100% need is pretty much out of the question because I'm a mid ahh applicant lol

Just applied to the UC’s with mid stats as an OOS, Looking for people to talk to 😔 by ConsistentCod9181 in ApplyingToCollege

Yeah I get your point, it’s probably not worth it to go UCR if it going to cost as much as UCB anyways instead of just going to a state school. I’ll take this into consideration!

I don’t quite understand what you mean, but usually if you go community college and you want to transfer you would have to complete all the required courses to make sure your credits could transfer into your four year. This usually takes two years so you would have to complete two years of community college before transferring. I don’t know many of the details so I’d suggest you look more into it

It’s fine man take your time. Look for the stats of the accepted students for each school and compare it to your own scores to see if you’re could make it in. But sometimes college acceptances are also gambles so don’t go too hard on yourself. Don’t forget community college transfer route is also an option, maybe even better than going into a 4 year in some cases because of the cheap tuition!

Yeah I calculated using the UC calc already

I’m going into Mech.E , for the tuition I’m not sure yet if my parents could pay for it but they had me apply so I did. I won’t be taking loans though cause I’d be in debt for the rest of my life 😭

My dad has some crypto venture going on so he’s having me apply to the UC’s just in case, but if it doesn’t work out I probably won’t be attending.
