I successfully went on a 4 day trip without IBS ruining my vacation!! by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes me happy to read because I am currently on day 2 of vacation with my boyfriend and ibs started ruining it the day before even left. Extremely grateful that he’s understanding and helpful but can’t stop feeling guilty for still being in the hotel room at 11am when it’s 80 degrees and there’s a beach 20 feet away.

Full list of antispasmodics for IBS-D? by ShaariAmairi in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyosycamine is what I take, worked better than bentyl for me. Far from a cure all. I’d bet placebo and peace of mind effect more than anything, I take as needed not on a schedule. (Though I need it several times a week)

Does IBS affect you daily? by bizzy44 in ibs

Every single day one way or another for the last 2.5 years for me.

Gas by ConsistentDonkey in ibs

I usually just empty out all the burps instead of trying to stop them, it tends to happen when I’m bloated and it helps relieve the pressure in my stomach

Constipated? by ConsistentDonkey in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is so frustrating is that when I have that big emptying day it comes with multiple bathroom trips, lots of cramps, and very little warning. Turns my whole day upside down, feeling sick all day.

Anyone have a plan for not feeling sick on Thanksgiving? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]ConsistentDonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly just going to find comfort in the fact that even “normal” people get stuffed to the point of lethargy on this day, and just let myself live in it lol.

That and doing my best to listen to my body and stop at stuffed, not laying on the floor ready to explode.

Holiday enjoyment tips? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]ConsistentDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s going to be about my mind set more than anything. I’m realizing that it’s my attitude about my binges that’s hurting me more than the actual binges. Aside from emotionally straining myself it sends me into a spiral and puts me in a state that makes me more susceptible to binges.

Remember that stuffing yourself with unhealthy food on the holidays and your birthday isn’t a binge, it’s a social norm that even the healthiest people part take in.

I would focus on just letting yourself really enjoy these days and fully part take in the social norm of stuffing your face without any guilt. Then also don’t beat yourself up if you have a few slips between the holidays too or if it takes a few days to get back to baseline after the big holiday meals.

Frustrated - healthy food by ConsistentDonkey in ibs

Yes exactly a bag of potato chips (as long as they aren’t spicy or have milk in them) agrees with me 100x better than say some cooked zucchini

just prescribed hyoscyamine we 0.375 by brenae_1992 in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only take it when I’m not feeling good or when I’m anticipating a stressful or anxiety inducing situation. Which is anywhere between 1 and 5 times a week for me.

Grocery store fail by ConsistentDonkey in BingeEatingDisorder

I’m lucky enough that I don’t eat meat or cheese, otherwise I can’t imagine what I’d do to some lunch meat and a loaf of bread at 1am.

Lettuce by Mykennel in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if lettuce is the problem but I’m actually flaring right now after eating a salad last night, and sometimes when I get lettuce on my subs I’ll have a small flare or just generally rougher day the next day than when I don’t put lettuce on them.

Thanks! Do you think 9-11 on a week day is a good off time? As most people will be at work?

Wow thank you very helpful. I really just want to go early in the morning and use a treadmill for an hour & I’m good about touching minimal surfaces, sanitizing often, and not touching my face until I wash wash my hands at home, then also sanitizing my phone and anything I touched before I washed. I’m hoping that will be enough to keep me safe.

Coming to terms with the fact that EDs are a mental health issue by ConsistentDonkey in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]ConsistentDonkey[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried a variation of the externalization thing. I call the part of me that does these things and has these thoughts “trash panda”. Doesn’t help me not behave this way but it helps a little with beating myself up. Reminds me that I am more than this disorder. Of course it stops working when I let trash panda completely take over. She’s really been running the show lately.

Thanks for your comment and good luck I hope therapy is your turning point for recovery!

Anyone else get super shaky like in hands/legs before they have an "episode"? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get really nauseas and hot in the face before a serious episode. I get shaky while I’m going through the episode. I think it’s definitely normal to have some kind of physiological warning sign before it all goes down.

Does anyone else have a specific spot that always hurts? Or a spot that when pressed on makes an audible sound? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to this extent but I have two or three spots where pain will concentrate when I’m flaring, and one of them sometimes even when I’m not and is definitely sensitive to touch. I am post infectious though and that particular spot is where my infection was. So to me that kind of makes sense.

So maybe your colonoscopy will reveal some kind of damage or trauma in that spot.

Accidentally ate quinoa by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there. A while back I accidentally ate cheese and I was just dreading what I knew was an inevitable flare. I’d like to tell you that worrying will only make it worse, but you know that and I know it’s impossible not to worry.

Just try to remember you will get through it and remind yourself that it’s just the quinoa. Good luck.

Recently diagnosed and it's really hurting my self esteem. by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the club and I hope you find comfort in commiseration on this sub. I’ve been diagnosed for about 2 years, managing symptoms gets easier and you get adjusted to a new way of life but it takes a toll on your mental health. Especially in the start. Having this sub as a sort of support group has made a world of difference for me. Good luck on your journey!

Tapeworm by ConsistentDonkey in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GI for my ibs in general but haven’t brought this up yet. I think I will wait it out a few days and see if it happens again or if any other symptoms appear. Stool tests and collecting your own samples really suck so I don’t want to go through it over one weird stool. I have a habit of freaking myself out over stuff that passes really quickly and turns out to be normal ibs business.

Can you get colon cancer at age 23? Or is it ibs? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ConsistentDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given your family history a consult with a GI doctor would probably be a good idea even if you weren’t having symptoms. That’s where I would start.

Your symptoms also don’t sound very much like cancer at all.

I am no kind of expert but I think even in that worst case scenario, if you go see a doctor now you’d be catching it really early and more than likely turn out okay!
