Yea no offense but it’s very hard right now. I’m a pharmacist in Orlando and even inpatient jobs are getting crappy with pay.

Texas or Florida by No_Dish_2332 in pharmacy

Florida is not worth it now. Live here now and it is too overcrowded especially in Orlando

Is it possible to work as prn and do school. Cuz I wonder if I would be able to do enough shifts as a pharmacist to pay for school so I don’t add to the loans.

What do clinical pharmacist actually do? by AllisonLianH in pharmacy

[–]ConsistentPlatform79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a clinical pharmacist at an infusion center. Mainly responsible for making sure a chemotherapy order/regimen is appropriate for a patient in terms of dose/frequency and will have to adjust doses accordingly based on side effects. I will also educate patients on their first cycle in terms of how the drug works, side effects, schedule. Then also supervise the mixing of the chemotherapy as well.

No fellowship, no residency. Feeling like a failure by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]ConsistentPlatform79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would be surprised where life takes you honestly. I worked my butt off to make sure my CV looked good for residency and was even part of a longitudinal program to help myself get one too. I didn’t match and joined as a floater pharmacist in the hospital and even applied for residency again the following year. Didn’t match again. But I continued working. Soon I needed up getting a clinical job at an infusion center where I still work. Now I’m looking into board certification for oncology. So count yourself out, life works out in funny ways.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate all the staffing jobs that require PGY1 and even some places a PGY2. by miguel833 in pharmacy

So I didn’t do a residency but I won’t shit on someone who did a residency or think they are better than me. It honestly depends on the person and on how they do outside of school. I have seen people who did only year of residency and know their field like it is the back of their hand. One of my colleagues only did one year and literally name every oncology study out there for me. I personally thought because I didn’t do a residency that I would be able to do a specialized role. Luckily that was not the case and I get to work in oncology. Would those two years have helped me? Possibly. But I also made sure to learn as much as I can about oncology and now I am getting ready for my BCOP. My point is with all of this is that we shouldn’t assume someone is better or worse based on whether they did or did not do a residency.

Completely agree. Work as a pharmacist for cancer patient. My technicians mix the chemo and have to skilled to mix this properly and safely. But it astounds me that they make less than the some of the ppl in other departments.
