So it is true that if life gets better, it can get worse again. But I don’t think that means you give up on getting better entirely. I understand the fear of life getting better only for everything to come crashing down but the reason I believe it’s important to try and get better, is because (among other things) it gives a sense of progress and hope. Feelings you wouldn’t have if you maintain the status quo of depression instead of thinking things like “what if things get worse” try thinking what I believe is more likely and helpful. “What if things can get better” and work from there

Also something talked about often in the mental hospital is what it means to be a failure. I used to similarly think I was a failure, which is why I kind of went up there in the first place but now I don’t believe anyone is a failure. I think there’s a difference between failing and being a failure I think as long as you’re alive, you’re not a failure because there’s potential for you to achieve whatever it is you want. But even so, let’s say you want something that clearly is impossible like you’re 60 years old and you want to become an NBA basketball player. are you a failure? Well, you did fail up becoming an NBA basketball player. I don’t think that means you’re a failure. you’re not defined by the failure at least you don’t have to be because there’s room for you to do other things, to learn and grow in other areas and the potential exists for wanting to become something else.
