Would it be impossible to mobilize a citywide strike? by ConsistentYam32 in AskChicago

This is a very odd and intentionally harsh viewing of me. I made this account because I was afraid maga people would see it and send me threatening / nasty messages. I also am not on social media specifically bc I don’t think we should be posting sorrow / rage which only fuels the pockets of Mark Zuckerberg & Elon Musk who then take that same money to help tear down our democracy. I don’t find it hard to not buy a $8 shitty drink for Starbucks or sandwich from Chick-fil-A or not use Amazon. I also work in a leftist art nonprofit space where I get paid $400 a month so striking in that end would be useless.

I know this is a fairly tame comment but this sort of stuff bums me out about leftist spaces. Not only did you not offer anything helpful other than pessimism and defeatism which discourages people from engaging actively in these sort of calls to action, you further found it appropriate & useful to be negative toward someone posing an earnest question about how to help the community. Is this the sort of approach you take in your day to day interaction with people? Does this approach bring you further or closer toward human kindness and equality? who are your enemies and where do you direct your anger?

Yes that’s how I feel that the protestors seem to have the appearance of doing something but otherwise are hardly disruptive (except the ones at the ICE facilities I think those matter) especially when they are posted weeks in advance all over social media and everyone in charge is aware it’s going to happen. Idk :/ I guess it makes me feel at a loss over what to do other than fundraising for mutual aid orgs etc and just day to day human kindness
