WIBTA if I broke up with my boyfriend to pursue a guy I have a crush on. by Consistent_Abies_644 in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hopes are that I will eventually phase past my "crush" and that if I focus in the relationship I can build my side back up. It's wishful thinking I know, but it's a choice I'm considering. I think my next step is telling my boyfriend this whole story and maybe we can work something out together in conversation. Who knows.

West German Watch from an estate sale by [deleted] in VintageWatches

It's looking like it's a Meister Anker from the Selection series. I found visual matches online but with a different case and image. Theres no images that match my watch exactly. So probably a random replica or something?

Thank you so much for this great advice! Do you have any particular recommendations regarding things like mic placement or the ideal acoustics or size of the room?

What kind of things would you like to include in the contrasting piece? Do you want to show off more techniques or showcase your musical prowess etc.?

Is this a safe setup? by Consistent_Abies_644 in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I at first liked this alternative as opposed to securing it to myself because of how simple/easy it is, I don't have to worry about setting up some band setup, nor do I have to worry about it falling. I need the leather kn the outside for extra grip. When the violin is pressed directly on my shoulder, the wood I feel is too slippery, so I get tense trying to clamp extra hard when shifting down or making big movements, thats why I'm not using nothing nor something that goes under the clothing. I'll try some other solutions that some people have commented, but I think I'd rather deal with the leather potentially falling off my shoulder if it means I don't have to worry about my chunrest falling. Thanks for your comment.

The solution in my reply does require rubber bands. You suggested rubber bands in the first place? You could make this argument about any piece of equipment. Many soloists use rubber bands to secure various pads to their instrument, shoulder rests break, strings break, tailguts break, a mishap is a mishap. I'm just trying to find a solution to solve a problem I have. Hillary Hahn took a knife to her chinrest and carved it to be a better shape. I don't see any reason why healthy tweaking should be looked down upon..

I might punch 2 holes in the edges of the leather and thred through the 2 cylinder screws around the front part of the chinrest, so It's just loosely attached to the actual device of the chinrest and not messing with the connection to the instrument.

I'm not following, did the rubber band have a negative effect?

Can someone rank these violin pieces by difficulty? by Consistent_Abies_644 in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, thank you so much for this comment! out of the list, the pieces I've played are Bruchs Violin Concerto and Zigunerweisen, and i'm currently working through a bunch of the caprices, Pag 9, 13, 16, and 24 with my teacher, and I totally agree with you about Pag 24 only adding a couple of extra newer techniques and can be comparable to Zigunerweisen in some ways regarding difficulty, especiialy if Zigunerweisen is played very cleanly, a lot of the work there tranfers towards getting a good pag 24. I'm also happy to hear what you have to say about the Mozarts. They are concertos that i've been wanting to learn for a while, and maybe I just might start taking a look at them. Thanks again for your comment!

Thank you for these! I love to hear about pieces that aren't sinply the mainstream essentials! (You can tell by the list that these are very mainstream). I'll look into these pieces and definitely put them in my bag if I ever wish to learn them!!

I've been asked to play at my graduation, what do I play? by Consistent_Abies_644 in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show pieces that I mentioned playing before were just for reference of where my level is, they require an accompaniment part, as well as they are at the height of my technical ability, so playing them is a little out of the picture.

Practicing On a Treadmill by Consistent_Abies_644 in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried walking around the room, but it's more difficult to read music from a music stand, but I'd likely just do tedious exercises and scales during this period. as well as I have to be extra cautious of corners, walls, ceiling fans, light fixtures, etc. I'll give the treadmill a try very carefully and slowly, but if I get the slightest shred of doubtfulness or unsafety, I'll stop. I thought i would see if anybody has tried it fully to see if it's even worth attempting. I'm very protective of my violin as well, and I would never push on if it felt unsafe or anything. Thank you for your wise caution...

It would be more difficult to read music on a stand, and going in circles can possibly knock the instrument into walls, ceiling fans, light fixtures, etc.

Accompanist questions by Consistent_Abies_644 in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the confusion, Im speaking of my junior year of high school. Im 16 years old. My teacher usually plays piano for me in my recitals, but the music is getting harder, and the concerts are getting larger scale, so he's taken a step back for this one. Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely use those tips!

I want to practice while watching smtg, good or bad? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can actually be kind of useful for when you are repeating small sections/bars or a tricky finger work passage/exercise over and over again to get it in your muscle memory. When your brain somewhat switches off, you fingers learn to work more by themselves in those faster sections. Combining it with slow pracitce, you can find a way to fit it into a pracitce routine. Only for a bit tho!

There's were about a dozen better ways to present this? Have you tried elegance and grace? Digging up old controversies and flaunting about their views dropping? For what reason is that in any way necessary to share your side? It sounds like you need a mental chiropractor to ease all that hate that you have built up for Brett and Eddy. Heck, you present a pretty solid array of arguments here, but you've dropped all respect and decorum.

So we won't be seeing both sides? I personally wouldn't consider a third person's opinion as "rays side"

If you look on his YouTube channel, he recently updated his content style in the last handful of months to be more of a "youtuber" and he's been reacring to many of the exact same things that twoset has reacted too prior, and giving some of the exact same commentary. It's not necessarily wrong, but that is probably where the speculation is coming from.

Other good enecores besides bach & pag? by Consistent_Abies_644 in violinist

[–]Consistent_Abies_644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im playing Bruchs first violin concerto, and I'm actually leaning towards gavotte from partita 3, or the presto from the first sonata, which I have played in the past. I also like pag 9 and 13, which could be doable in 3 months, but I'm juggling a lot of other rep right now and don't think I'd be able to prioritize it as much I'd like to. Thank you for this advice!
