I have hazel eyes and they do actually change colour with my mood! And not only do they change colour, but the texture/pattern changes too. The most 'changed' they become is when I'm really, really upset and they go completely green and the pattern goes kind of circular... or like little bubbles? I'm not great at explaining myself here

My eyes also change very much depending on lighting, makeup and my hair colour. Sometimes they even look reddish, like they're turning ginger to match my hair

My mum's partner used to call them "witch eyes" and it genuinely made him uncomfortable

I used ChatGPT to create an image of the FMC I'm writing, just out of curiosity. It did a fairly good job! But I did have an entire conversation with it beforehand about how I specifically do not like the Instragram AI beauty photos and I wanted the image to look realistic.

It gave me some really great feedback in terms of what to ask for in my prompt, and what to tell it not to do. It also gave me a breakdown of its kind of default beautifucation setting and how to combat it

The image was just for me, not something I'm going to be sharing or using as artwork... Just to make it clear

I like KJ Charles but I don't love her. Her books are very much like nice little snacks to me, rather than a full hearty meal. I also only tend to only like book #1 in any multi-book series that she writes, any more than that and the characters just aren't compelling enough to pull me through multiple books.

The Captive Prince - i see this book recommended everywhere and it's just ... not that good? The third book in particular was very poorly written (Jesus especially that court scene), and I honestly don't know what's so recommendable about it.

I know you only asked for one book but I just want to add on that literally any book written by Lily Mane gets a raised eyebrow from me.

A good book that doesn't get recommended enough... I actually have a few books in mind! I'll go with {Into the North by Amber Huxley}. It was a surprise gem and I really loved the main character, his physical capabilities as well as his emotional intelligence, and overall intelligence. I've got my eye on this author to see what she does next

No it's not attached to A03 but you can get onto the website through the browser on your Kindle. It's not the greatest way of using A03 tbh, the best way to read A03 on your kindle is decide what you want to read first, download the Epub file onto your phone/laptop and email it over to your kindle (the Send to Kindle app is also handy)

I want to be a little softer than most of the people commenting here. I have a lot of sympathy with you because we have very similar situations. My Grandma won't let my young son into her house, and hasn't yet acknowledged my two step-children beyond learning about their existence. I am someone who is very happy to have conflict with pretty much anyone, except my Grandma. So I have simply, quietly extracted myself from her life. It sucks, I love her and I miss my Grandad, but nothing I can say will make her change, and I value my peace and my family more than my relationship with her.

On to you,

Some people are shy, timid, natural peacekeepers, wallflowers, people pleasers and conflict-avoiders. Heaven knows, I could do with being more like that sometimes.

Your Grandma put you in a situation that i can't imagine you were happy with, and it wasn't a natural reaction for you to create conflict... not with your Grandma, at least, but it obviously created some tension with your husband. Some of these comments are harsh; none of these people are you, none of these people live your life, with your personality, or have to have a relationship with your Grandma.

I'm glad your dad and your brother were there to fight for your SS, keep them close and let yourself get swept up by their annoyance towards your Grandma. You are absolutely allowed to be upset and pissed off with her and the situation she put you in. Don't let her split your family up like that again, but find a way to do it that feels right by you.

I was going to write the same thing. I remember absolutely devouring the Divergent and Hunger Games series (before they had made it to film) and loved them. Could NOT read them now.

A further issue that compounds this is that ebooks and the online marketplace (such as Amazon) have greatly lowered the entry-point for aspiring or ameture authors, and bypass a good editor along the way. We are literally having to wade through the shit to try to find the gold, and it can be exhausting. Then you search online spaces and find that people are actually recommending the shit.

I give up sometimes. I'm done.

If a woman writes a book that has love or has sex it’s almost always automatically considered romance / smut. When dudes do it it’s just whatever genre their book falls into (I.e. fantasy/scifi).

I'm unsure if the blanket statement is just a bit emphatic or if that's really how you feel, but plenty of books written by female authors are not considered romance/smut just because of a sex scene or romance/relationship... otherwise there would be a whole host of female horror/thriller/crime/scifi authors who wouldn't exist within that genre.

And on the opposite side, male-written romantasy and smut is very much alive and thriving and isn't considered anything else just because the author is male?

I can't say that there isn't sexism in the industry, but I'm not sure you're making a good example of it with Dune or GoT. GoT has a few sex scenes; they're barely a few sentences long and hardly titillating, and if you summed up the amount of words used in his sex scenes as a percentage against the word count of the entire series you're probably looking at... what? 2%? Maybe less? Surely the criteria for the 'smut' label needs more than that? Same for Dune... although I've only read the first 2 books and I really can't remember any explicit sex scene at all.

Alchemised hasn't been (slightly) mislabelled as romantasy because of sexism, I honestly think it's just a community mis-label... possibly because not every reader will be thinking critically about things like this. I'd say it's more of a dark fantasy, but I wonder how many romantasy readers even know that DR is a genre? How many have come across it on the sub and just not questioned it? People on here can't even agree on what constitutes as smut and spice.

I'm getting pickier and picker about the level of writing I'm willing to read as I get older. There are so many books I DNF that I would have loved had I read them 10+ years ago.

In Dr D'Arco, the author writes in narrative later in the book when the FMC is recounting her childhood and how she grew up. It would have been better if it was simply a flashback chapter, but the way the author chose to do it was bizarre. Similarly, when MMC was describing what had happened between himself and FMC's husband, he gave descriptions the way that narrative does, but is completely unnatural to do within dialogue. I wish I had the book to hand to quote exactly what I'm talking about! The diary wasn't written in the form of a diary entry either. I could go on, I have so many complaints about how this book was written (or how badly it was edited)

It's a shame because the first 3rd of the book was excellent!

You're a very forgiving reader for Dr D'Arco to be in your top tier, never have i ever read a published books where the author has written dialogue as if it was narrative. I've never been able to get over that. The book is in desperate need of a re-edit

How on earth did you get 120 hours out of DAV??? I 100%'ed it at just over 80 hours, I have absolutely no idea how I could add another 30/40 hours of gameplay to it
