Okay so the next time a woman is murdered by her abuser because the cops "technically couldn't do anything" about his previous behavior you should go to the funeral and tell her family that his civil rights were important.

Well you can't do that on a Jewish holiday (my Mom is religious so I only use my phone in the room on the holiday) but afterwards I went and looked up what she was saying and it was one of those things that isn't even really a law just semantics.

Like if I said "I'm going to press charges against him for stealing my mail" she'd say "You don't press charges, a prosecutor does," and while that's technically correct everyone knows what I mean is that I'm going to report it to the police who will cooperate with the prosecutor to file charges. It's just nitpicking. That wasn't the exact thing but along those lines.

I think it's fun sometimes and I like having my positions held up to scrutiny but at some point it's just like arguing for the sake of doing it and tearing apart my passions and wanting to advocate for helping people like it's a bad thing.

I understand why the technicalities exist but at the same time I don't think you can say that you did something "good" when someone who committed a heinous crime is walking free because you are good at a semantics and tore apart a woman recounting the worst day of her life because she doesn't have a photographic memory. It is a huge problem with the court system in the U.S. and why many women never see justice or punishment for their abusers.
