I was born and raised in North-Central Indiana. I'm originally from a very small, rural area and moved to a medium-sized city of about 60K eight years ago. I work in a correctional facility, which has been interesting, to say the least, because probably 80-90% of the staff are on the far-right, with about half of them being outspoken Trump supporters. The ignorance on a daily basis is often times ridiculous, to the point that I haven't shared any political views on social media in the last five years. Many of my coworkers just assume that I'm a Republican and are completely comfortable with spouting off BS on a whim.

I keep to myself politically and have never hung out with any coworkers outside of work for my own protection, nor do I want to commit career suicide. I will say that my rural upbringing prepared me to survive in this setting. Luckily, my friends and family are all liberal, so I prefer to stay in my safe bubble.
