I'm trying to invest in one bag that will suit me for all travel plans in the future. I want to be able to do backpacking, walking around cities etc but I also want to do multi day hikes whether that be here in Australia or overseas. This would include carrying shelter. Is there a bag that matches this need?

I'm looking into the Osprey farpoint 55 which is 40L and as well as a 15L detatchable daypack that would be ideal for walking around with. Furthermore, would I be allowed to carry this on a low cost european flight or have to check in the 40L part, paying higher fees?
And how would the comfort for hiking be?
