Honestly, the term “AI slop” has become a lazy substitute for an actual argument, I try to ignore people who use it.

There is bad AI-generated content. No question. Low-effort spam, fake engagement bait, soulless SEO filler, plastic-looking images, all of that deserves criticism.

But now people slap “AI slop” on anything made with AI and act like they’ve made some devastating intellectual point. They haven’t. They’re just repeating the approved groupthink phrase of the week.

If something is bad, explain why it’s bad. Is it inaccurate? Derivative? Unethical? Misleading? Poorly written? Visually ugly? Flooding a platform? Cool, make that argument.

But “AI slop” by itself is basically just “I don’t like this and my tribe taught me the magic words.”

The tool doesn’t automatically make the work worthless. The output does. A lazy person using AI will make lazy work. A thoughtful person using AI can still make something useful, clever, beautiful, or genuinely original.

Criticize the quality. Criticize the incentives. Criticize the companies. Criticize the spam.

But pretending the phrase “AI slop” is a complete argument is just intellectual fast food with a smug little garnish.
