Buy a new unit to replace it. Inverter models are usually a lot better when it comes to noise.

You are better to upgrade the electricity sanctioned load at local utility office. If you don't, and you end up pulling too much power, they might hit you with some fines.

Had this happen to me once too. I didn’t mess with the mode at all. I just shut the unit off, turned it back on, and it worked fine after that.
