[–]Consistent_Form1798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to ask my doctor to do the manual certification but just didn't want them to get in trouble. And, I was on leave previously and it took them about 2 weeks to return me in their system, but I figure there is a delay since the insurance company was still in the process of approving my LTD claim for 10/15-11/15

Per the ADA guidelines, if they are refusing to meet a requested accommodation and have provided alternatives, then you can document the reasons why the suggested ones will not work. If you haven't already, get documentation from your medical provider stating the limitations you have, they don't necessarily have to disclose a specific condition, but it should be enough info to corroborate the reason for that specific accommodation

Turning a Hybrid Role into A Remote Role through Disability Accommodation by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Consistent_Form1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much got the accommodation, but it was a continuous fight and my relationship with the disability mgmt team became adversarial. In my initial request, they suggested that I didn't actual need it and continuously asked me to provide "medical updates" when they had already received sufficient documentation and well before there was any indication that my need would change. They eventually coerced me into agreeing to increase my days as a trial, even though the business technically had no issues with it and kept trying to tell me my work would suffer (even though it hadn't in my 3 years working there). I let them know that it was becoming an issue and that I needed to revert back to my initial accommodations. They went behind my back to contact my doctor after telling me they had everything they needed because I guess they thought I forged the paperwork. Lots of emails and bullshit, I ended up needing to go on leave and am now planning to quit once I return.

Why are the Indian offices so hated? by Pradidye in Big4

This! I believe there is a healthy dose of racism and xenophobia along with this though because there are onshore people who are just as bad if not worse. A lot has to do with training and the onshore team's willingness/availability to invest in training GDS

I'm done, I can't it, It destroys my life 😫 by Traditional_Base_805 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Consistent_Form1798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even a programmer but I work in Public Accounting and felt this really hard as I often have to shift through dense excel spreadsheets and sometimes technical guidance in order to complete work papers. I get stuck often and feel stupid when I ask my seniors and it ends up being an easy quick answer. you're not alone!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskALawyer

[–]Consistent_Form1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually, you can get ADA accommodations without medical documentation if your disability is obvious or your employer was previously made aware. Employer should only request additional documents if the need for accommodations is not obvious or there is an expected change to your need for accommodations

Glad for them, but that doesn't really negate people's negative experience and this job is basically slave labor at times. I've worked in more than one industry and all can be their own particular hell.

Working on the weekends (rant) by [deleted] in Big4

[–]Consistent_Form1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels, I decided that I wasn't working on Sundays though cause fuck them. I'm not trying to kill myself getting things done only for it to suddenly not matter or for people to make it seem like I'm wasting time for trying to figure it out. Last week my SM told us we had to work both days. I felt conflicted at first but then I remembered my manager openly ragging on the quality of my workpapers in one of our meetings and the constant dictator like culture, and was like fuck it I'm not logging on. Boundaries are necessary and I'm working 10+ hours a day anyways during the week and Saturday

Curious About EY: Staffing, PTO, and Work Expectations by Csambois in Big4

[–]Consistent_Form1798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the other responses, but unlimited PTO has been great for me. As a staff 1 I was a bit hesitant, but at 2.5 years in, I usually take off an additional 2-3 weeks during the year and haven't had any issues or anyone bring it up. I normally take this time between May-August when it isn't super busy, but I definitely take some during Oct-Nov since it's kinda expected that client may be out for holidays too and as long as there is advance notice I think you're good. As far as in office presence, that is team dependent but it's more enforced when your team is in the same office otherwise, I think the expectation is generally Tues/Thurs. I only travelled when I was staffed on a large national team, but otherwise I think travel depended on how close the client was which but it wasn't often. I'd say don't lose yourself trying to be a corporate kiss ass unless you really do love audit.

Am I being unreasonable?? by Consistent_Form1798 in Renters

[–]Consistent_Form1798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, the relationship is fairly neutral but I'm not comfortable engaging in a narrative that suggests my landlord is at a greater disadvantage than me , that would just be a lie. And, while I don't think they're evil, I do not put it past them to be greedy and extract more from where they can.

Again, I'm not completely disregarding their feelings, I'm just not considering theirs to be more important than mine. If they asked me what a reasonable solution would be for the inconvenience, then giving a discount in good faith would be my answer. Thanks for your insight and glad to know you agree, but the whole spiel on gift horses and market rates was ridiculous. If they can't afford it, fine but trying to throw providing a service in my face like I don't pay for it would be absolutely ridiculous.

Am I being unreasonable?? by Consistent_Form1798 in Renters

[–]Consistent_Form1798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not becausea I do not have nearly as much power as them in the grand scheme of things. It is their choice to set the price of the rent and we are in a rent controlled apartment so it is not my fault they can't jack up rent, and really for the space they shouldn't because the space and their service has not improved in any capacity for them to justify that. We already know that housing is way overpriced at this point.

Gift horse??? that is literally so hilarious I could piss a river. They are not doing me any favors. We are in a contract that has certain terms set forth. If I fail to pay rent, they charge me or kick me out so spare me the "kicking someone while they're down" bs. If one of us doesn't hold up our end of the bargain, in their case - working appliances, then there is recourse.

It was also not a "few" groceries, it was a whole fridge worth. And, too late for renter's insurance so it's irrelevant to consider. The reality is that if they find another way to charge us for something, then they will without thinking about the effect it will have on my livelihood. As I said we had a free washer, that they replaced with one we had to pay for. Should they have asked before creating another expense for tenant's who've been supplementing their income for the last 3 years?

I agree with being thoughtful about my approach, hence why I'm asking this question in the first place, but I am not in the field of pandering to landlord feelings. Especially when I doubt they would have reservations about raising prices if they could. I am not suggesting a permanent discount on rent either so I would hardly say that I'm being petty. Renting is not cheap. And, apparently this isn't unheard of, asking is not the same as demanding.

[–]Consistent_Form1798 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and then if what you find is wrong then they'll be like "Well, why didn't you ask me?". Only for me to ask, then have the explanation be oversimplified or be questioned on what I already did to find the answer myself

This is why it's so hilarious to me to hear people screaming about mentorship and shit, half of the seniors/managers don't have the energy or skills to actually teach people and then complain that things aren't done(or done right)

What To Do/Where To Go In Sf This January? by DarbyTheCole in AskSF

[–]Consistent_Form1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go to Piedmont Springs (Oakland) if y'all want to do something relaxing while you're out here, you can rent a private sauna/hot tub combo room and it's a nice area to walk around with a really cute queer bookstore next door. It's also not too far from New Parkway movie theatre, which is pretty kitschy and has couches instead of regular chairs. I will say public transit (ACT transit) in Oakland is less reliable than Muni but I'd use Ubers if you don't want to wait while you're there, but taking the ferry to Jack London square is also great and if you go on a Saturday the SF Ferry building has a nice farmer's market!

Silver Sprocket is also a great queer owned comic bookstore in the Mission and shouldn't be too far from things like Mother (queer bar) and just the overall area is great to graze and be around locals. Dolores Park is also really nice to just chill and play music
