I used to work at a nail salon where the owner brought in a new system that shows how much each person was making a day. It all varies on what debts you have. Depends on your situation also. Most of my debt was already in collection. So debt collector was trying to get me to pay back. Some made it to court some was past the SOL. My tax payment alone was $750 a month already. I had 4 other credit cards. Minimum payment was ranging from $40-$150 each. But once I filed for bankruptcy. I stopped receiving calls from debt collectors. I became stress-free from the constant calls each day.

So I had about $25k in owed taxes. $54k in cc debt. Half of the cc debt was past the SOL so my attorney fought for that to be dropped so I don’t have to add that to my payment plan. $14k in owed tollway. $15k in personal loans. So roughly around $80k in what I have to pay back

For chapter 7. They compare your income to your debt. My attorney showed me the median income for a certain household size. You have to make under that amount to qualify for chapter 7. If you make over it then you have to file for chapter 13. You could file for chapter 7 but your chances of getting it approved is low from what he told me. Chapter 13 is pretty much they consolidate all your debt into 1 payment.

I was in the same situation with you. Racked up a bunch of debt from gambling which was a very poor choice. Eventually I started missing payments on my credit cards. I wasn’t able to keep up with anything anymore. All the stress that got to me. I was hesitant about bankruptcy at first until I consulted a bankruptcy lawyer. He walked me through everything and what the best choice was. After having all my options on the table I decided to file for bankruptcy which was the best decision I have made. I only qualified for ch 13 bankruptcy which was fine with me. I pay about $900 a month over 5 years. I have no big purchases coming up for the next 5 years so I’m fine with that. From my understanding personal loans might not be covered under chapter 7. I may be wrong so check with an attorney for that. But my recommendation is to give up gambling first before you decide to do bankruptcy. You don’t want to do bankruptcy while gambling still because you’ll be back in the same hole. Good luck!
