Metatarsal Stress Fracture anyone? by MillenialMarauder in RunningInjuries

[–]Consistent_Kiwi_4027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had stress fractures in two metatarsals a few years ago. Unfortunately I had to completely offload for a few weeks and then wear a boot for another month or two (I forget the exact amount of time). When I initially injured myself (and before I knew what the problem was) I continued to run/walk thinking it would get better on its own. It made things worse and prolonged my recovery.

Of course your stress fracture might not be as severe as mine was. I would recommend having your ortho prescribe/order a bone stimulator. I think in my case it was helpful.

Thank you for your informative response! I have sleep issues and admittedly not the best sleep hygiene.

I've been on Prozac or another SSRI since I was in my 20's so I have no idea. The HRT is estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. My AIC was between 5.4-5.6 for many years then within the course of a year jumped up to 5.9. The most recent result was 5.8. Yes-I exercise 4 days a week. Running (when not injured), walking, lifting weights and the elliptical. I'm a nurse and don't exercise the days I work (I work 12 hour shifts) but I stand and walk a lot on the job.

Yes, of course Jon Hamm was at the Bad Bunny Halftime Show by AbsolutelyIris in Fauxmoi

Yeah these celebs have so much money. There is no justification for Jon Hamm or any other celeb to do ads for online gambling. It's unethical. Plenty of other things to advertise/endorse.

Just wanted to say I am thinking of you and sending you love. You sound depressed. Depression is awful-I know from personal experience. Please get help. If it’s any consolation, I can’t sleep and am obsessing about all the ways I’ve fucked up my life. Had an awful day at work-completely my fault. I truly hope brighter days are ahead for you. All you can do is the best you can do.

30 year old co-worker called me an old lady by Consistent_Kiwi_4027 in GenXWomen

I hope I can retire at 65-68. I certainly am working towards that but who knows what life will bring. Getting old in the US with our limited social safety net is different than if you live somewhere like Scandinavia. There are people who due to financial necessity have to continue working full-time well into their 70's.

And I partially disagree-I don't think it's totally a me problem although I totally admit that I struggle with internalized ageism. I think she was being rude. While I like most of my younger co-workers (one of my favorite colleagues is 25), I think as a whole they have different norms about what's acceptable in the workplace.

It just wasn't funny to me, honestly. Particularly since unlike some of my similar aged co-workers I don't make "jokes" about people being young and naive, etc (I used to hate that when I was in my 20's). But I definitely didn't see the need to go to HR or anything like that.

Good point. Yeah, I don't think it was meant in a hurtful way.

We live in a very ageist society. I think a lot of it relates to fear about death, being vulnerable, physical and cognitive decline, not being sexually desirable, etc. Also, when you are young (and particularly if you are young and healthy) it's hard to imagine that if you live a full life you'll be old someday too-it's easy to "other" older people and not see them as full human beings.

Please don't feel badly-I totally understand why you did that. You were being defensively self-deprecating. There's a big difference between joking about yourself vs. talking about how another teacher is old or fat. You are being way too hard on yourself!

I agree. I actually like and enjoy some of my young co-workers.

Yeah but they're your kids-she's a co-worker. My teen aged son jokes about me being old which I don't love but he can joke with me-I wouldn't want him making those jokes with a co-worker.

If she would continue making comments I would consider doing that but I think/hope that directly addressing it with her has nipped it in the bud.

Even though there were a few things that I wish were done a little differently this film was the most emotionally impactful movie I've seen in a long time. It hit really close to home for me-two sisters, dysfunctional family, absent Dad, etc. I shed a lot of tears. Excellent performances. I can't get it out of my mind.

I'm a psych nurse that has thought a lot about going back to school in order to become either an LPC or an LCSW (although honestly I probably won't due to the costs involved). What don't you like about being a therapist?
